2005 SX drive, on the dipstick on the top of the drive, how much fluid is represented from the bottom of the flat to the top of the flat...ie if I wanted to "top it off" from near the bottom to the top of the flat, how much would I add...I am assuming it isn't much...and I don't want to overfill...
I don't know, that is a pretty steady "racket" and very consistent at the engine RPM just to be some clatter, but one thing is for sure, either it will stay the same and not mater, or if it is a worn joint or bearing, it is going to get worse...

So, I did some investigating today…the noise is NOT coming from the engine…I am 99% sure of that…used a stethoscope all over the place. The noise is in the back of the boat, drive shaft, U-joint, gimbal bearing or something in the drive…sound recordings are attached, if I can figure out how to...
yes, it is a rhythmic 10 hz, 600 rpm noise, sometimes a little click like, but mostly a fast thumping, like you would think of with out of balance machines. I will try to get a recording...
So this weekend, when it warms up a little outside, I am going to do the following...
1 check the engine mounts and what they are bolted to...both front and back
2. check the drive shaft where it goes into the coupler, see if it is spinning true. I can see it from the top back of the motor

Never say never, but I am pretty sure this noise is somewhere behind the motor...in the drive shaft for drive...I will double check though. As for the motor itself, it is running really smooth...no missfires...probably going to replace all of the rotating parts...unless someone can point me in...

Alright, so, the bar was much easier to push in once I "aligned" the motor, based on what you are saying, I might not have done it completely right, but I think it is closer than it was...I will have to try again next time...before I lifted the front, it was very difficult to even get the bar...

Noise was there before the alignment/drive removal. I greased the gimbal bearing and checked the u-joints...looking for the reason for the noise.

Thanks for the suggestion, however, I already do that for a cold start, somewhere I read that one cycle on the Volvo Penta was not enough so I have always done two for a cold start...

Hello again, so I have a question about how my 2005 5.0 GXI is starting. On the first start of a cold motor, it instantly turns over (starts), but then in about a second, stumbles, almost stalls and then catches itself and revs up to about 2K rpms and then settles down to 600ish rpm idle speed...
