    Betting on boating

I am betting on boating. I just bought the kids some Brunswick stock (BC). It was under 3 bucks a share. Here is my thinking: Gas is down under $2. People seem to be buying and keeping their SUVs again around here. Belt tightening seems to mean slowing down and spending more time at home...

    1980s mercruiser, 140 HP manual?

Ok, I have no ssn, etc. I was at my buddies house the other day and this year he picked up his first IO -- he has always been an outboard guy. He had not winterized it, and yes we have had some freezing nights. Here is what I know: Its an early 1980 mercruiser with 140 hp, and a 4 cylinder...

    Fogging question

I have a 2004 4.3 merc carb, alpha I. It has a 2 barrel carb on it. Yesterday while winterizing I got the motor nice and hot. I then ran it at around 1500 rpm and started to spray in the merc fogging oil. I got through more than half that can without not as much as a slight bit of...

Tire Born On date ... how old are your tires

Ok, I don't know how long this ling will last, but its very informative: http://abcnews.go.com/Video/playerIndex?id=4826897 Its about car tires, but I think even more important for us boaters who trailer. Basically they talk about the shelf life of a tire and the fact that some tires can...

Are there any negatives to removing the leg for 6 months?

I have a 2004 4.3 merc carb alpha. I just hit 100 hours and have some oxidation on the rear outdrive, and feel like its time to change the impeller. My plan is to winterize like normal, but after I drain the oil out of the outdrive I was thinking I would remove it and put it in my garage...

Easy Lift Trailer Jack -- Has anyone used one and liked it?

I am just back from a blow out on my trailer. I had a spare and I was very fortunate to have another boater stop with a nice large floor jack which sped me on my way. There are still helpful nice people out there is this world, despite what you would think after watching the eventing news...

Spark plugs 4.3 merc carb 2004 -- has different one in it than specified

I am summerizing my boat and am replacing my plugs. The motor is clearly marked that the boat should have AC-MR43LTS. The ones in there currently are AC 41-932. Is this a generic or equivalent plug to the AC-MR43LTS? I ask because I do get some run on when I don't have 93 octane in there...

2004 4.3 Merc carb -- is my manual on line?

2004 Merc 4.3 carb Thunderbolt V engine serial number: om662964 transom serial number: om818183 I bought it with 17 hours and nothing was ever done to her. At the end of the year I changed all the fluids, fogged, and stabilized. This year I plan to do the impeller and am trying to decide...

Obrien foam kneeboard? Any experience with one?

I stopped by Academy Sports to get some had warmers for the March Brew and Stroll -- which this year should be called the Brew and Snow -- and they had the skis and water sports stuff out! Yeah! Anyway, I was checking out all the hydroslides when the Obrien Surge and Airborne caught my eye...

any one try the magellan crossover gps?

I have been looking to buy the chronically lost wife a GPS. I saw that this one comes with topo maps, and you can download lakes! This got me excited about using it in the boat too. Has anyone out there tried this unit? Was it any good? My other thought is to just get her a Tom Tom or...

Does this prop need a repair (picture)?

I have my prop off for winter and I was wondering if I should take it in for a repair. Two of this fins have dings, with one being a a slightly contorted angle. I can't say I get any noticeable vibration, but perhaps the hub masks it? Anyways, I would appreciate any advice. Also, if you...
