Adding a kill switch to a 9.9

I'd like to add a kill switch to the end of the tiller handle on my 9.9 Johnson. When I use it as a kicker, it's a bit hard to reach the kill switch in a hurry. I figure I just have to wire in a pushbutton switch in the end of the tiller, but has anyone done this?

Thanks

    Johnson 9.9 Charging system upgrade

I've read through the Puget Sound discussion on the 9.9/15 hp OMC motors but have a simple question that is not clear from the article.

I have a 1981 Johnson 9.9 basic motor. I've bought a charging system for it off EBay that is from the same year motor (or at least 77 - 81 motor) so...

    Replacement Alternator

My alternator seems to have stopped charging. Most likely my fault as I overtightened it and it stopped spining for a bit but it has been flaky for a while now (based on the voltmeter).

What is involved in switching to a single wire design and does anyone know the Napa part number?<br...

    Electronic Ignition and resistor

Was reading a thread below (while, it's below right now) about a motor dieing and it was suggested to switch to Electronic ignition so you can get rid of the ballast resistor.

Well, I have the electonic (Petronix) but still have the resistor. Would I gain anything by losing the...

    Coil question

Just wondering if there is a specific coil for a 1975 OMC 2.5l or if an auto coil will work. I know I need the ballast resistor etc. It is just the last piece of my motor to not be replaced and it is looking pretty sad (although I suspect it works fine).

I'm trying to get some basic info on my boat. Things like the model, horsepower rating, and performance info.

What I have is a 1975 Starcraft 18' closed bow, aluminum stern drive. Capacity plate list 8 people (it does show weight but I don't remember it). It is not a cuddy cabin. Has...

    General question

Not sure if this should be here or in General boating, but I think my issue is motor related.

I have a 1975 18" Starcraft aluminum boat with a 120HP OMC Stringer drive (was 140 but got repowered to a 120 at some time). Bought it last year for next to nothing and got both the motor and...

    OMC Stringer Intermediate Oil Leak

I have a 1975 Starcraft with a OMC drive. Bought it last year and have done a ton of work on it getting it reliable but I am stuck with one last nagging oil leak.

The leak is in the intermediate housing where the steering gear come out. I'm wondering how hard this seal is to replace...

    OMC Stringer Trim guage

Is there a way to add a trim guage to a 1975 OMC Stringer 2.5l (120hp) motor? It's the one with the front trim screw that moves the whole motor and leg up and down.

I'm trying to get the boat trimmed properly but it is kinda hard not know where the trim is and whether I'm at a limit...

    RPM Question

I'd like to attach an inductive RPM guage onto a small 2 stroke outboard to see what it is doing. Is there a simple way to do this and get an accurate reading? I'm thinking that with it firing every stroke, the guage is going to try to compensate and double the RPM. SO if I'm at 5500 rpm, the...

    OMC Stern dirve boot.

I have a mid 70-s OMC 140 hp stern drive (electric shift etc.). I also seem to have a leaking boot as I take on a fair amount of water. Nothing my bilge pump can't deal with, but I'd like to fix it.

The boat is an 18' Starcraft (aluminum hull) if that makes a difference.
<br...

    Anyone in Hawaii

Our illustrious (sp?) British Columbia Premier was on holidays in Hawaii and got into a little trouble. Just curious if anyone down there heard about it? It was front page news in Canada (Globe and Mail) but I'm judt curious if it hit the news in Hawaii?

Do I need a new trailer?

I have an 18' Starcraft aluminum with 120 I/O and am thinking of either re-doing my trailer or finding a used one with what I need.

The boat and trailer is 2600 lbs (almost full load) so, legally, I don't need brakes. Winterizing

I guess it's that time of year. OMC 120 HP Question

New member with a few questions.
Earlier this year I bought a ~1975 Starcraft 18' Aluminum boat with a 120HP OMC (2.5l or 153 ci) engine and 140HP OMC Leg. Both have been rebuilt (engine is 40 over) as the boat had been sitting for a few years. Less than 20 hours use after the rebuild. I'm...
