    boat storage

A friend of mine built a simple "A" frame out of lumber that he stands over his boat for winter storeage. He then drapes big tarps over the whole thing and weighs down the ends with heavy rocks. That, along with his normal boat cover, keeps it dry and out of the direct sunlight. If you have...

Towing over rough terrain with outboard down?

Transom saver. A simple adjustable bar that supports the outboard by spanning between the engine and trailer frame.

    Fish finder/depth finder

When I did mine, the instructions were very specific. Are your instructions not? If you're trying to use the old mounting holes and they won't permit you to mount it in the correct spot, you may need some sort of bracket to extend it down. Preferably made of something that won't corrode. I...

    I can relate to this!

Oh yeah! I have tons of hardware in coffee cans and jars, but more than half the time I have to go buy what I need!

Towing over rough terrain with outboard down?

Why would you trailer with the outboard down? Why take the chance? You might hit a speed bump or drive up an incline and make contact. If you're paranoid about the engine bouncing, get one one of those transom saver bars.

    Finally, a good idea.

I can't see how talking about a firearm in general would be considered political. It's just another tool.

Trailer winch question and tilt question? 1st timer.

The most important thing is to know how deep to submerge your trailer. If it's too deep the boat will float all over the place and you will be in a predicament. If it's not deep enough you will have a hard time winching it. Most trailers are at a good depth when the water is just covering the...

Hard starts after sitting for a week or so

Yeah, I'm thinking the way it was initially running that I should re-adjust it so there's a slight gap.

Hard starts after sitting for a week or so

Absolutely! It was sitting in the driveway for a week. Should the choke butterfly be completely closed when cold or should I have left a slight gap?

Hard starts after sitting for a week or so

I have it set now at no gap. It's fully closing. Should I have it open a crack, like 1/16"? I'll spray the linkage.

Hard starts after sitting for a week or so

Ok, I messed with the choke adjustment disc some more and got it close all the way. I loosened the three screws and rotated it counterclockwise and pumped the throttle. I did this in small increments until I got the choke plate to fully close. I guess my old memory was correct about how to...

Hard starts after sitting for a week or so

Thanks for the quick reply. Ok, so the choke plate should indeed be fully closed when cold starting. I suspect this is the problem. If I mess with the linkage, it will close. But, just pumping the throttle doesn't do it. There is an an adjustment set screw on a cam on the linkage, but I...

Hard starts after sitting for a week or so

2003 Mercruiser 4.3L, 2 bbl carb. Engine serial # OM643729 Engine hard to start after the boat has been sitting for days. After it starts, it runs fantastic and will restart just fine with minimal cranking even after anchored out for hours. Ignition wires, plugs, distributor cap...

    Boat Ramp Etiquette

I'm with you. I would never pull out without the bow up against the bow stop, winch strap tight, the safety chain attached. Once the boat is out of the water I hook up the stern straps, then I pull away. I have the retractable ratchet stern straps that are mounted on the trailer. They hook up...
