    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

I think I'd buy/sell if I could swing it money wise. Once you start a conversion you will lose big on any resale value and you might not even like the result.....

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

I guess thats where the second engine comes in, it gets you home, then you play with the faulty one.

This happened today, and in the blistering heat.

I was just thinking the same thing! I didn't even know there was a wood backing on those things. I never really gave it much thought.

    Sacrificial Aluminum Prop

Interesting. I did a bit of research and it does indeed appear that big motors at high speeds do cause noticeable flex/ pitch problems. Also ss props can be more easily made into more cupped blades. You learn something new every day! Won't be a problem for me with my 90hp. My wife won't let me...

    I/O (Sterndrive) Conversion to Outboards

Another thing I always worried about was if a bellow springs a big leak, you have a big hole in the back of your boat below the waterline!

Need with what Battery is needed

Your situation is probably not typical as you have a lot of stuff running off your batteries. My f90 outboard keeps my one deep cycle battery charged up all season with no need to top up the charge. I seldom need to go more then a half hour from shore and once there, there is a lot of stops and...

    Coast Guard Requirements

Turns out you are right, the regulations are there, its the enforcement that is very lax, at least in my area. I'd be willing to bet not a single boat in the harbour I use would pass!

Fuel injector plastic tip fell into intake hole... now what?

I'd go with the shop vac idea. Rig up a small diameter tube to the nozzle and make sure the tubing is long enough that if it drops off it won't also disappear down the hole.

    Sacrificial Aluminum Prop

I've always wondered, how exactly do you change out a prop when on the water, or do you beach the boat to do that?

    Sacrificial Aluminum Prop

Not arguing, just curious, and I'll be the first to admit that I know very little about different props, but would the drag from a slightly thicker blade really make a noticeable difference?

    Sacrificial Aluminum Prop

I've always thought the same thing.....I can't see how a prop blade can flex enough to make a noticeable difference. Wouldn't metal fatigue eventually cause the blade to just crack off if that were the case?

    Coast Guard Requirements

Wow. you guys sure have a lot of regulations to follow! Up here the only one I'm aware of is there has to be a PFD for every passenger and thats it. There may be more but nobody is enforcing them if there are. In all my years with my boat, only once did I meet a fishery patrol boat and they only...

Loud warning tone when at idle speed

I understood exactly what you meant. Is the alarm just for over heating? Could it be low oil or something? I agree that after 20 min WOT then back to idle, it should over heat then if over heating is really the problem. As said above, could be an electrical problem.

    Panther outboard bracket

Did anyone else find the spring tension in these is way too much? Even with a 9.9 4 stroke on the bracket i couldn't lower the motor against the springs. I eventually had to remove the lower spring and only then could i get it to move!

Booze and boat don’t always mix well.

A couple of years ago I was on the wharf cleaning fish when a couple of guys and a young fella looked about 10 yr old walked past me, and got in their boat. The smell of weed of them was enough to get you high. They started up the boat, put her in gear and went nowhere, revved up a bit and...

2005 200hp Mercury Optimax Water in Gas

You could try running it from a separate gas container to see if your problem is in your main tank or the motor itself.

    Wealth preservation,....

When I was young and first started working and there were negotiations ongoing between the union and Gov, I remember an old guy saying he hoped they didn't screw around with the pensions. I remember thinking, forget pensions, I'd rather get a raise now! Now that I'm retired I am very thankful...

Green people destroyed another fantastic fishing area.

Not sure I'd want to be catching fish that relied on sewage to survive.....
