Boat is in the shop. Sad day.

Made the 3 hr drive to the boat today. Started up perfect but after running a little while started to idle rough. Pulled it out of the water and took the fuel filter off and boom, paint. Took the fuel pump off and paint is the issue. Also pulled the injectors. I’m ordering a refurb from a guy...

Compression test procedures for 4.3L GXI-E

Thanks guys for the tips. My worry is just getting the engine started, let alone warmed up. Headed down tomorrow to work on it so I will report back.

Compression test procedures for 4.3L GXI-E

Found a pdf of my Volvo service manual so I can do a compression check, but for whatever reason it doesn't list the procedure for the GXI-E. (2004 4.3L GXI-E) From the manual: • To Prevent Sparking: —4.3GL/GXi-A/B: Remove (grey) 2-wire connector, with purple and grey wires, at ignition coil...

Boat is in the shop. Sad day.

Oh, 100% this is what scares the p out of me. Think I'm going to run down this week and pull the pump and injectors and send them off. $300 for the rebuild on the pump and $80 to have the injectors cleaned. So if that's not the issue, I'm only out $480 or so. My manual is in the boat shed so I...

Boat is in the shop. Sad day.

Not a bad idea. About 6 months ago I changed the dizzy cap, plugs and wires - any one think that could be causing this? I check gaps before plugs went it, and this last trip checked all the connections. Is it possible the dizzie cap moved a little bit and now the timing is off?

Cleaning the LP and HP pumps on fuel pump

I've seen a video on how to take the fuel pump apart, but how do you actually clean the pumps? Debating doing this myself versus sending off but didn't know if anyone else had tried to do this on their own. I also don't have a way of actually testing the pumps....

Yes. Pulled it out and it looked normal. I have the e-clip on mine.

Boat is in the shop. Sad day.

So after doing some research it sounds like a fuel issue. I’m going to make a trip down to the boat this week and test the high and low pressure. I’m debating just going ahead and removing the fuel pump and injectors and sending the injectors off for cleaning and the pump off to be rebuilt...

Boat is in the shop. Sad day.

Yes. Drained everything. (Had an awesome buddy who ran over and did it for me). And talking to other guys near my shed, they don’t think it even got cold enough in the sheds to freeze. What’s also weird is I ran the engine after the storm in my buddies drive way hooked up to a hose and it ran...

Boat is in the shop. Sad day.

2004 Hurricane SD187 with a Volvo 4.3L GXI-E. 196 hours. All fluids changed last fall. New plugs, wires and dizzy cap changed earlier this year. New fuel filter installed last fall. Went to take her out for the first time this year and she started right up but then idled very rough and didn’t...

How long for water in an I/O to freeze?

2004 Hurricane with a 4.3L Volvo. Boat is located 3 hours from me in an enclosed shed with a concrete pad. A freak weather system came through Texas the last two days and temps hit 0. I did not have time to get down and drain the water out of the engine. (And have never had to in south Texas)...

RPM's surging, think I fixed the problem

Paint overspray. I think the dizzy cap is original too.

RPM's surging, think I fixed the problem

Thank you sir. I no longer live close to the boat so my thinking was just to replace it all while I was there. Might even keep a spare cap in the boat knowing they have issues.

RPM's surging, think I fixed the problem

2004 Hurricane SD187 with 4.3L GXI-E, approx 190 hours on the engine. Boat had been sitting for five months and finally got to take her our yesterday. Air temp 75, water temp 57, wind 5-15mph. New oil/filter, gear oil, fuel filter all done last fall. Put in fresh gas this trip. Started up and...

Starting an engine that's been sitting...

UPDATE - drove down to the boat yesterday and it appears I was smart last summer and only left less than 1/8 gas in the tank. Put some fresh gas in and she started up. She ran horrible later on and I will start a new thread addressing that - but it was not a gas issue.

Starting an engine that's been sitting...

Thank you sir. Unfortunately the boat is stored 3 hrs from me, so I don't have the option to start in my driveway (which I would prefer). I'm going to start it at the ramp and let it run for 20 minutes before venturing out. Also have the local Rangers on speed dial should I have issues. Going to...

Starting an engine that's been sitting...

2004 Volvo 4.3 GXI-E. Boat is stored in West Texas in an enclosed storage shed. Only got to take the boat out twice last year due to the lake being closed for covid and then work getting crazy. I run mid-level octane (I know I don't have to, but it makes me feel warm and fuzzy) and marine...

    Plugs and wires for 4.3L

2004 4.3L gxi-e with 198 hours. Engine has started to run a little rough so I’m going to replace the plugs. I’ve owned the boat since 2015 and have not replaced the plugs. Water/fuel separator, oil, impeller all changed annually. I found an old thread here that said to use AC Delco or NGK...
