will a conn.rod from a 1974 115 work in my 1973 115?found some on a great deal.but my conn.rod # doesnt match johnsons site.the 1974 # is 318711 my 1973 # is 317777.if that helps.these numbers are stamped on the rods.
ive got the motor ready for parts and reassembly just wanted to make sure im not missing anything before ordering.any replies would be great.
parts list:
4 coils (all were cracked)
4 sets of piston rings
rebuild gasket set (what gaskets might not be included?)
4 o-rings for upper and lower...
hello all its been awhile.so ive got my motor completely tore down and am wondering what the red flaky paint like residue is.do i need to worry about cleaning it out?its in the crankcase.
another thing,why dont the piston and connecting rod part #'s match between my motor and johnsons web...
as you can see the spark plug took some damage this weekend.well i say this weekend but didnt check last weekend which was the maiden voyage so could be either.noticed pretty sluggish performance,and stalling when putting in gear so i thought i would chech the plugs.

out in the bay today doin some fishing,boat started fine but when i put it into gear it would die.not good way out there.had to take off motor cover to give it alittle extra rpms.could a simple cable adjustment be the solution?
unfortunately i don t have a tach.
my motor will not start.ive got fuel pooring out the carbs w/ choke engaged,fuel on the plugs,good spark,compression 115-125.tryed premix into carb trick still nothing.have computer in garage for realtime help if available.

im looking to buy a tachometer for my boat but for obviously reasons i need to be clear on how many poles my motor has.thought i read on here to look under flywheel and count the spools of wire to know.i count 8 does that sound correct.thank you,

what is the trick to get the ball bearing and spring situated on my 1973 johnson controls?the spring is tough!!!!theres got to be a way.any help much appreciated.

i came across a fella whose selling factory manuals on ebay but of course he doesnt have mine,1973 johnson 115,but he does have 1973 85hp and 1974 115.would either of these do?thought i read on here that the diff between 115 and 135 was very minor.thanks
