    I guess my thinking was to protect the wood with the sealant and then paint as often as needed to protect the transom over the years. One way or another the transom will out last my ownership of it...but I do want it to last for the next owner as well. And it is hard to know what is the best...

    What are some good alternatives for the Minwax Polyurethane for Floors? I can only find it in gallons and only need probably a cup of it and can't find it in quart and it is about $50 for a gallon. Using it for a small transom.

    Yeah, it appears it was a cheaper 2 cycle oil. I was going to go with a merc oil.

    Yeah the blackness was worrisome as well...I just bought this motor and was going through it all. I let out some lower unit gear oil and here is a picture of the 2 oils....so it seems that you are spot on. I never had an outboard that leaked that much 2-stroke oil...What causes that?

    Yeah...it appears there is also some water in the oil as well...which I am assuming is because of this seal/gasket.

    No worries...Yes it is a 2-stroke. I believe it is coming from the seal...I will try to take a picture and post it up.
