    compression test results are supposed to be high (in this case like 150-165 or so, leak down tests are supposed to be LOW...if they are high like yours you're losing a lot of compression via valves not seating or worn piston rings.

    Thread Locker Choice

    if you're referring to the bolts that hold the housing together, what does Merc say to use? I don't think I'd use thread locker I might use Merc Perfect seal to keep water out of the threads and reduce the chance of seizing. I have done this on my Cobra used in salt water and it has worked well...

    Tuliped valve causes

    Look at your spark plugs center insulator porcelain that can tell you a lot. I always wondered if the 4.3 V6s were less prone to this because none of the exhaust ports are siamesed as on the V8s....yet my OMC is set up from the factory to run less spark advance than any of the V8s, go figure!
