    Is a small gap acceptable on a water pump

    Rebuilt my water pump using the old housing out of the 1986 Evinrude 40hp. When I put the steel band in there was a gap of maybe .020-.025" where the ends meet. Do you think this is acceptable?

    Needle valves are gone. Where to get new ones.

    Went to rebuild my "new to me" 1986 Evinrude 40 hp carbs and found out, not one but both slow speed needle valves are completely gone. Since getting the boat I have ran it for maybe 3 hrs. and ran good top end but was rough at idling, now I know why. Where can I get new needle valves?

    Backflushing a '86 evinrude 40 hp

    Got the lower unit of to change the water pump and was wondering how to backflush. Is there a procedure to follow? Also, have both carbs off for a rebuild. While I have it down this far is there anything else I should do or check?

    Shifting linkage on a 1986 Evinrude 40hp

    Need to drop the lower unit to change the water pump. Where does the shifting linkage unhook at? Is it just under the powerhead or mid-section.
