Bought my first boat to cut, gut and rebuild from bow to stern, including engine. Killed my back and suffered the wrath of the fiberglass demons

Add a chain in the tank to break up and move things. After that you need to do a 3LB pressure test to see if the tank is good. Here is some good reading. "According to the USCG regs - you need to go above 3 psig above atmospheric to comply with their requirements. But, having said that, a...

    Restoring 1988 19’ bayliner capri

Anyway forget the saving the fiberglass sides after being gutted. Ply just doesn't go back in the right way. Usually creates voids as mentioned. Additionally, I have found ply strips under glass stringers called strakes and they were rotted. Cut flush or at most leave 1/4" for new stringer...

    Transom and floor wood

Like the old man said. So depending on whats available you could go with ACX, BCX and or CDX. Acx being the least voids. These are all cost effective and used every day for boating rehabs. After that there are higher costs alternatives products.

If you use that method make sure you epoxy the top to seal the open/cut foam cells to prevent moisture from getting in. Expansion foam is closed cell product.

    Transom repair on Lakeland fiberglass.

Ahhh... half the time the crap comes out of the factory like that waiting to fail. So like the guys mentioned above this is no little butter up deal but it can be done. If you are uncomfortable with the tasks that need to be done then move on to another used boat with more than likely similar...

leak from deck to inside boat above waterline

Sooooooooooooo whats this stuff? I've used that on home nickel dime repairs but never heard about the marine application. Actually, worked and had a UV light. Cure was seconds. Cool if it is something, new to me is all. Just read fast cure is 24 hours? And what about the rot already set in?

    Poor fibreglass adhesion to plywood

you need to wet it out prior to glassing. Soaks into the wood. Let it dry. Come back wet out again and lay glass. If not wet out the 1st time to dry then wood and glass soaks up resin but creates a horrible bond.

Will epoxy based fibreglass resin stick to marine ply that has been sealed with an epoxy based sealant.

Yup to Bondo. Wipe down with acetone before application. Myself I would just roll it out with epoxy top to bottom. Let set up then come back and fiberglass all the wood. Then fare and paint.

    Boat stringer size.

Acx,bcx, cdx exterior grade plywood only. Noto to be confused with treated lumber. Acx being the premium of ply then there are the marine grade plys etc. Price just gets uppity. Wet it out like a pig and do all cut edges. I think its tagged 5/8". Thats it, all you need.

Most tools to do fiberglass work I consider to be disposable. Most are ac vs. battery cause got tired of buying and charging while working.
