    problem diagnosis

    Dropped in a reman merc 260.. everything bolted into place. got it started.. started and ran strong at around 900 rpm.. vacuum gauge read dead solid at 15.. little low but dead solid.. when i throttle back all the way it just died.. didnt run rough just died.. so figured it was an idle...

    bent carb idle mixture needle.. while in carb..

    so dont ask me how this happened.. but it did.. rochester qjet.. so i bent the right needle in my carb while it was in the carb.. so is it safe to assume that this would likely result in serious damage to the needle seat and require a rebuild?

    best online source for Mercruiser parts

    anyone have any recommendations for good sites to find parts... looking for parts for a 1982 merc 260..<br /><br />i tend to like stemtostern.com as they give you the full parts list and diagrams.. easy to shop at least.. not sure about pricing..<br /><br />anyone else have any opinions...

    well now im screwed - Update

    1982 merc 260 <br /><br />just so i can avoid this from happening again..<br /><br />what the heck goes wrong that causes massive amount of gas to go pouring into the cyl? to the point that they get locked when you just try to turn em over to see if anything pumps out the 3 plugs you removed...

    tach voltage at idle

    have a 1982 mercruiser 260 with 260 drive..<br /><br />so here is my quetion.. the tach doesnt work.. so i tested the voltage from snd to gnd at i get like 8.4 at idle.. it does up when i throttle up just as it should.<br /><br />but without a tach cant i tell the rpms from the voltage? seems...

    battery too strong for comp test? that possible?

    so my boat battery needs replaced id say.. doesnt hold charge long enough to do even one good cylinder.. so if i say run some jumpers from my car battery to boat battery and do the comp test like that.. is that ok? i am sure the readings are affected on the low end due to low battery strength...
