Jon boat submarine

When I was a young whipper snapper, I and some friends from the local burger flipping establishment decided to take my very heavy 12 foot fiberglass Johnny Boat fishing. We put a 5 HP on it and put 4 of us in that poor lil thing. We were sitting at the dock, all of our tackle boxes, rods...

    Smashed engine cowling

Somehow I managed to trash the starboard lower cowling on my 95 48 Special. I suppose a new one will cost me the farm. Anybody got any ideas where to get a replacement such as from salvage?

    GPS FORMATS

My buddy bought a Garmin model 76 GPS unit for his boat. When he picks a fishing site from the offshore chart, the format does not match his. Example, off Daytona Beach is a wreck listed at 29'12" 00sec. 80' 45" 11 sec.

That said, his unit requires you to put in 29' 12" and "three"...

    VHF ant info

Could someone please explain to me in laymans terms, what the difference is between an 8' 3db ant and an 8' 6db ant. I don't really care about finish or glossy looks, just want the best performance I can get without spending a fortune. Shakespeare sells several models in greatly different...

2 stroke 4 stroke uses same fuel filter... How?

Iboats advertises some fuel filters as double duty. How can they work for either....? If one has pre-mixed fuel it seems too be a problem. Maybe they exclude 2 strokes that don't have oil pumps... anybody out there know?

In Line Fuel Filter....Marine vs Automotive???

Just purchased an inline filter by Purolator that has the clear glass with the replaceable filter. Opened it up and it advises not to use it with outboard or marine motors. Because of the oil in the gas? Do I need a "marine" model? What would the difference be....?

48 Special Tilt Trim Manual Assist Lube

    Here we go again.

Ref the 48 Special, one of the weak points seems to be the gas assisted tilt mechanisms. Where exactly is the best place to lube it? The stainless struts themselves? Also since the motor weighs 182 lbs dry....should it have a transom support.... It seems to ride...

    Tiny Tach Coax length

I just ordered a Tiny Tach today. The technician advised me that the longer the coax cable... the weaker the signal to the display. I ordered 16 feet and was told to wind it around 5 times per plug wire vs 3 for the standard 10 foot length.

I would be interested to know from this...

    Help for the diagnostically challenged

I have a 1995 Evinrude 48 Special. Runs fine high end, but at idle is rough. I know when the carbs were rebuilt a few months ago, the owner did not use a tach to monitor the rpms as my Clymer manual advises. The manual recommends 1775-1825 rpms in gear with boat floating freely. It was...
