Looking for link n sync on 2008 25 HP 2 stroke yamaha

For future reference, you may be able to pick up a factory service manual on ebay or somewhere for cheap. I have one I paid about $20 for that is for earlier models but they are basically the same motors as the later model ones aside from slightly different ignition system.

Buying brand new Yamaha repair/repair manual or used one.

I've noticed some of the older service manuals have some grammatical/spelling errors that leads me to wonder if they missed some things translating from Japanese to English. Maybe they made minor changes to fix things like that and reprinted with more modern covers?

1994 Mercury 25 - Low Compression Bottom Cylinder

I originally saw one that would be a direct fit for $300 shipped, but it has since sold. That's about the going rate of the older XD style models with no thermo I'm seeing now. Haven't seen an exact match to mine in a few weeks though. I haven't had the time to do any more with it as things...

I'll make sure to check that.

1994 Mercury 25 - Low Compression Bottom Cylinder

I'm in Alabama. The majority of the used blocks I have seen online are coming from Illinois, Wisconsin, and Michigan.

1994 Mercury 25 - Low Compression Bottom Cylinder

That makes sense. Thanks. So you advise against trying to get it to run and go straight into tear down? I was wanting to verify the ignition system was good apart from just the static spark test....however, the lower and electric start assembly is all in really good condition and I guess...

1994 Mercury 25 - Low Compression Bottom Cylinder

Sorry for not checking back in and thank you for all of the replies. The new impeller and gaskets for the lower unit came in the mail yesterday. I'm going to service it and get it back on the outboard asap. I got some new gaskets for the exhaust cover since they tore when I removed it but...

1994 Mercury 25 - Low Compression Bottom Cylinder

A few weeks back I bought a Mercury (Tracker Branded) 25 hp long shaft. Ad said it's a 1994 model, which seems accurate but I'm not 100% sure how to cross reference the serial number (0G092027) to the year. I do know that the serial range means it is a chrome lined bore and not mercosil, per my...

Yamaha 50TLRD revs and bogs revs and bogs...

Maybe try running it with 1 plug wire pulled at a time to see if you can isolate it to one cylinder. Not sure if that would tell you much though since you already changed the coils. I guess from there you could trace it back to the CDI box and then to the pulser/trigger wire for that cylinder...

Looking for an electric starter kit for a 1997 20hp 2 stroke Yamaha

The two green wires are from the lighting coil. They would plug into the rectifier/regulator to charge the battery while running. I looked at a few parts motors I have and the 90's to 2000's 20/25hp models I have appear to use a brown and blue wire from the charge coil under the flywheel as...

Looking for an electric starter kit for a 1997 20hp 2 stroke Yamaha

Does your flywheel have teeth for the starter? I know the early models that were pull start only still came with flywheels with the teeth and the lighting coil (at least on the 25hp models - but the 20hp is just a 25 with different carbs to my knowledge). With those you just needed a starter...

Mercury 150 Black Max ~1992 year model

Odds are that 200hp for sale isn't going to have a good powerhead but I'm for sure going to check it out soon. Seller had it listed for $1,700 and just dropped it to $900. Figure it's at least worth a look at that price. Will bring a good battery and do a compression check and inspect the...

Mercury 150 Black Max ~1992 year model

63 is about too fast for us anyways lol. Would be nice to be able to outrun a storm if needed but that's about all we would to go over 50mph for. What are your thoughts on swapping out a larger hp powerhead? Would a 200 2.5L be too much assuming the boat is structurally sound? Despite the...

Nope. Will have to thoroughly investigate that before making any kind of decisions

Mercury 150 Black Max ~1992 year model

Sent Bob's an email but I believe it is a MJ5 model which seems to be rated for 300hp and has either a 2.5" or 5" setback setting with a 0 or 6 degree wedge setting as well.

Mercury 150 Black Max ~1992 year model

Any particular reason to avoid the Wiescos? I think my last rebuild I used a WSM rebuild kit. Not sure what the adjustment ranges are. It's a discontinued Bob's though. I believe it also has two setback adjustments. I will need to contact them and verify all of that and the HP rating. I agree...

Mercury 150 Black Max ~1992 year model

Good info. Thanks. Does that also mean that the 2.0 sleeves can be bored oversize a good bit or is +0.030 or something still about the max? I currently have both motors parts lists pulled up on two tabs and am comparing various parts. In this particular case, the 200 is not nearly as clean under...

Mercury 150 Black Max ~1992 year model

Gotcha. Wasn't able to work on it due to weather. Am going to do some re-organizing in my shop so we can squeeze it in there for the time being. And then can do a better job checking it out. My dad is gonna get some rebuild quotes soon. I've also been looking around online for any local used...

Mercury 150 Black Max ~1992 year model

Do you mean the throats/venturi themselves or the main jets? I'll pull the airbox, carbs, and cylinder heads this weekend for a better look.

Mercury 150 Black Max ~1992 year model

Well, figured I'd add sad note to this. I rode along with my dad to take it to the lake yesterday afternoon. Took forever to start but finally did and ran good at high speed. We varied throttle and spent around a couple of hours on the water and traveled about 16-17 miles per the Navionics app...
