What is a Good Stereo System

Re: What is a Good Stereo System As promised, here are a couple of pictures of the 2 x 12" Bazooka tubes installed in my boat: As you can see, they fit like a glove right under my dash. They come with a set of straps to screw down and secure the tubes with. I got very lucky with the...

Merc service bulletin on prop exhaust hole drilling

I remember seeing somewhere on here a Merc bulletin on how and where to drill thrust holes at the base of the prop for better hole shot. Does anyone know where to find that or have an electronic copy? Anyone out there do this with noticeable gains?

    St Johns River Cruise

Re: St Johns River Cruise Why yes.. yes we do have some incredible scenery down here.. and especially if you actually get off the main river and find the back creeks and springs. Sand bottoms, clear water, fish everywhere, no one around.. it's a little slice of heaven. Last weekend at the...

    New engine dieseling

20 hours on my brand new GM crate longblock and it's dieseling badly. When I shut it off today after warming the oil for the first oil change, I watched it with my own eyes run on for a good 5 seconds and flip backwards and forwards on it's last breaths. Scaring me here. What gives?

    Audio Install Question

Re: Audio Install Question You won't notice much if any of a difference. Don't bother especially with such small speakers. I experimented with trying to build enclosures behind a set of my 6x9s, and it sounded worse.. they love how they are now.. (Only 6 shown of the 22 speakers in the boat.)

Alpha 1 Gen 2 water pump replacement

Getting ready to do my first water pump kit on my 1997 Alpha 1 Gen 2 out drive. I've got service manual #14 in front of me, but I can't find the procedure or even a mention of it anywhere. Does any one have a page number to reference or any tips?

Bow vs stern lifting for a 3.0LX

I'm a little lost when it comes to the difference between a bow vs stern lifting prop and how that relates to overall advantages/disadvantages. Meaning: If I want a nice 21p SS prop for my boat that will get me up on a plane and keep me there at a decent RPM, what would you recommend? A bow...

    Time for new radio....questions

Re: Time for new radio....questions Hey bud.. Installing a new head unit is a relatively simple job. Pretty much all stereos install the same these days, and consist of a metal mounting sleeve which slides in and is held by tabs that you bend in order to hold it. The main unit slides in to...

    Water in 3.0 - Rebuilding/recondtioning cylinder head

I'm about ready to yank off my cylinder head and inspect due to my wonderful water in the oil issue. We're leaning towards a blown/corroded head gasket or cracked/corroded cylinder head. With everyone's experience, how often is the head able to be reconditioned and re-installed? Wondering if...

St Johns River, FL - Lemon Bluff rope swing beach

Re: St Johns River, FL - Lemon Bluff rope swing beach Here's a simple map on navigating the main channel from Hwy 415/Gator's Dockside to Hwy 46. It's a plenty deep enough for large boats..

St Johns River, FL - Lemon Bluff rope swing beach

It's about that time again for BBQ'n, tube'n and fun times at the Lemon Bluff rope swing beach out by Osteen on the St Johns River. We get a good crowd of 30-50 boats usually on Sundays from March - November and it's always a fun and borderline debaucherous affair. The more the merrier...

    Mid 90's 3.0LX vs 2000's 3.0L engines

While hunting down a viable candidate motor to replace my shot 1997 3.0LX, I've been running into a number of 2001-2002 "lightly used" 3.0L motors. I was under the impression that after Mercruiser switched from the "L" designation, that all motors were then "LX"? What is the difference...

    Removing water from engine post-repair

What is the best method to totally remove water from an engine after head repair? Has anyone tried an automotive type flush? Sea Foam? Any suggestions besides 10 oil changes in a row?

3.0LX with blowby, water in oil and lots of fun times ahead. Not.

1997 3.0LX that has lived it's life in FL.. so no hard freezing here. Runs like a bat out of hell and purrs like a kitten. Always maintained. However.. beginning a few months ago, I started getting a good amount of blowby out of the valve cover vent. At first it was just a little extra oil...

Engine Restore products on marine engines

Has anyone ever used this stuff on a marine engine with good results? Bad results? I've read up on it in automotive forums and it seems split.. the people that have used it say that it works great and the people that laugh at it usually have never used it. Not looking to start a discussion...

    Electric choke not opening up

I thought that I had fixed my choke problem, but apparently not. Choke snaps shut on cold startup, but won't open again until fully under way. Idle zone out of the marina is full of black smoke and chugging. Once I've got WOT, she's fine for the rest of the day.. even if I shut it off and...
