    Tune Up Specs 1973 Johnson 50HP 50ESL73R

Both 14x9 and 14x11 look relatively inexpensive and available. Would the current WOP RPM give any indication as to which one would be a better choice?

    Tune Up Specs 1973 Johnson 50HP 50ESL73R

OK, that motor was on some kind of smallish speedboat before I got it. I think it was about a 15' trihull maybe. Not sure about that. But I didn't change the prop after I got it running, I never really thought about it. I'll try to get a WOT RPM soon.

    Tune Up Specs 1973 Johnson 50HP 50ESL73R

Jimmbo, the prop is 13-3/4 x 15. I am not sure when I will be able to get the WOT RPM. Does that prop sound OK for a pontoon?

    Tune Up Specs 1973 Johnson 50HP 50ESL73R

I don't know if they are mixture adjusting screws, or air bleed screws, but both carbs have a screw that definitely affects idle quality. As far as timing, I have no reason to think that it is out, but there is a way to check it, and I just wanted to make sure it was 'right'. What 'right'...

    Tune Up Specs 1973 Johnson 50HP 50ESL73R

I'll check both for a good manual. Thanks. The tach wasn't working the last time I had it on the lake. I need to check it out and see what that problem is. The prop I can check when I get home this evening. Does 14mph on that boat sound right?

    Tune Up Specs 1973 Johnson 50HP 50ESL73R

Hi Guys. I have read a great deal on this forum, but I don't have a lot to contribute. I am still learning how different outboards are from automotive engines. I have googled a lot trying to find out the tune up specs for this engine. It is running OK at the moment by finding specs in...

1973 Johnson 50ESL73R very low power

This motor is severely lacking power at anything more than 1/3 throttle. This is what I have done. New spark plugs, stator, rectifier, timer base with sensor, cleaned and adjusted carbs, cleaned and inspected fuel pump, replaced all fuel lines & bulb, and has fresh gas. Timing is perfect...

    1970(?) 120hp worth rebuilding?

I bought a 120hp Chrysler model 1207HA S#4997 from an auction. Two of the cylinders are scuffed and would need to be bored and new pistons, but the top cylinder is actually cracked. About 1-1/4" to 1-1/2" in from the cylinder head. So two questions. 1. Can a cylinder be welded and bored? (I...

Johnson 50hp bog out and die above half throttle

It is a 50ESL73R It was (supposedly) rebuilt a few years ago. When I first got this engine it ran great for about 20 minutes. Then it started losing power at higher throttle settings. Now it will bog out and die above about 1/3 to 1/2 throttle. It will start and run fine at idle and high...

120hp 1970(?) Wires to connect to start

I bought a 120hp Chrysler model 1207HA S#4997 from an auction. It has Magnetron ignition with points. All I got is the motor. I put it in a barrel and tried to start it but no spark. I checked out the points and was getting no electrical contact across them. Cleaned them up and they appear...

I need a head gasket, carb kit, (packing for the needles if it isn't in the kit), and a float for a 1954 Johnson Seahorse 5-1/2hp CD10. Anybody know where I can find them? Thanks.

45hp Chrysler losing power at full throttle

Hey guys. I have a 45hp Chrysler 2 cylinder about 1978 vintage. It has had a fuel problem for a long time that I haven't been able to figure out. After priming, it will idle and run at low throttle settings very well. The first time to try for cruising speed, it will take off ok, but after...
