    Replace plywood decking on pontoon

is there any reason a guy cant use a sealer on it? I would think that would keep the wood dry and last alot longer, especially if its a high gloss decking sealer, then glue vinyl or carpet ontop. Is there a reason that wouldnt be a good idea?

    Decent reels??

Yeah I meant "better than garbage" reels. The main ones i use i dont mind spending a little extra on good quality reels, but im talking just something that will hold up on my little 3 foot rods i use on the kayak on no-wake lakes, usually going for bluegill and smaller stuff. No need for a...

    Decent reels??

So I have 3 $80 “decent” reels I use the most. I bought a couple $20 rod/reels just for minor fishing, mostly bluegill and crappy lakes. Prolly will use for ice fishing too. 4lb test line, but all 3 of these new cheapie reels fail to operate almost immediately. What’s a good reel for the...

Suzuki df140hp on our pontoon question

My 2021 Sylvan 21ft 90hp Yammy does 24-25 with me, wife and 3 kids. You should be able to raise the motor full range of motion without interfering with anything, our dealer just informed me to keep an eye on the wires and make sure theres no binding or issues arising when we do it. I would...

    Speed/HP boost for towing kiddos

Ive found that 40hp is minimum for a pontoon, and 50hp is just a small step upward of the bare minimum. If your max motor capacity on the pate is 70 hp, that toon is built for putt putting around and not much else. I will say my new 2021 21ft sylvan, with the 25 inch diam-tubes, and a 90hp...

    18' pontoon prop?

2020 21ft Sylvan dual 25" toons, 90HP Yammy here with a 13 1/2 12in pitch prop, and just me is 26 mph @ 5900rpm. Full load, pulling a tube with 3 people on it, 18 mph @ 5200rpm. Im also looking for some way to get a little more speed out of it, like a tubing specific prop. No, a pontoon is...

    Tube pulling?

made a rock cairn while watching the kids swim while wife cooked at the campsite. mom aware some people hate these things, but I stubbed my toe on every one of those.

    Tube pulling?

Well! We did it! And to much surprise, it pulled great. Had the wife reel people in and babysit the prop (tow rope) till I got more comfortable, so for the info, 2021 sylvan, 25” tubes, 21ft 90hp yammer. I can get about 25.5-26 with just me, 24-25 with the family, and with 7 (grown) adults, and...

    Tube pulling?

2021 90hp sylvan 21ft fish n cruise, we recently boat a 3 person big mable tube for it and a cheap tow rope. What’s a good way to hook it up? Can you tie right to a cleat at the back? I ordered one of those tow harnesses but it’s not sounding like it’s going to be here for my daughters birthday...

Pontoon sitting for over 10 years

The pros: bows the time to upgrade to a 4 stroke. If you spend the money (or they) fuel injection is an awesome benefit as well. The cons: $$$$ But all is not lost, a new motor is a wonderful experience. The reliability and confidence in it is worth its weight in gold. how’s the fuel tank look...

    Simplest 2 Battery Setup?

I would buy a dual purpose AGM. more expensive than a conventional deep cycle but it doubles as a d/s and a starting battery. I set my boat up with a blue sea battery switch and charger relay. the cool thing is, it allows you to charge both any time the motors running, but only draw from 1...

    Tying to dock/reaching it

So I’m very new to the boating world but always been a great operator of machiner and what-not. So having a fishing pontoon it is a bit of a pita to dock on some of these tiny lakes with tiny docks, against the wind, ect. While being alone. Many times, before I can throw it in neutral, and reach...

    Pontoon gas tanks

My 2021 pontoon on 25” tubes has a tea some style tank.

    Pontoon gas tanks

It would most likely be easiest (and cheaper and lighter) to run a single tank. (Half the cost, half the plumbing, no need for multiple gauges or a splitter, half the weight, half the floor space) On my old pontoon I just carried an extra 1 gallon can as my tank was only 4 gallons. (No gauge)...

    Pontoon Hardtop

If it were me, I would make 2 halves, bow to stern, and tie them together with an a-frame. this way, you could run a ridge cap vent if you want to, but it might be overkill. I doubt I’d really bother insulating it, as a second (thinner) sheet of aluminum or pretty much anything will work well...

    Boat Names

Had an ugly 1970 rusty steel pontoon we called the SS Swallows. made the signs with duct-tape and cardboard, because there wasn’t any point in having a nice sign on such an ugly boat. still trying to figure out a name for the brand new toon, was thinking “Who’s The Loser now, Dad?” Might be...

    A Bit too far

Funny thing is that’s a diesel, first gulp of water in the intake and the motors shot.

    Power anchor install trick!

Alright so I got my Minkota 40 installed. After much consideration, I decided to do it this way for simplicity, eventually might get a quick detach for it because it WILL be a pita to restring. The short wires that go to the electronics under the shroud made it rough to get back together in...
