    Putting drive unit back on.... shift shaft position?

    Alpha 1 Gen II I thought my manual covered this, but I can't find it anywhere..... When putting the drive unit back on do I want the shift shaft to be positioned in neutral, forward, reverse? I thought it was neutral which puts the meeting (shift shaft and cable end) of the top of the shift...

    Skeggard removal.....

    I have a skeggard on another lower unit that I'd like to put on my new lower unit, but it's on with some crazy tappered headed screws that I usually see on bathroom stalls. Where can this tool be bought at? Thanks Dave

    Buying exhaust manifolds......??

    Any advice on where to buy without over paying...... I see a lot of them on ebay and are supposed to be genuine Merc ones. I see there are dry fit and non dry fit........ Do you have to disassemble to know this? I have a 1992 5.0 Mercruiser. Best Dave

    Typical rust spots on exhaust manifolds......?

    Mercruiser 5.0......... My exhaust manifolds at cylinder 1 and 2 have little holes right above those cylinder spark plugs that push some water out. Is this a typical rust spot for these? Thanks Dave

    The 6" rule..... my manual isn't explaining this.

    I may have to replace my lower shift cable. Was wondering what exactly the 6" rule is on adjustment? My manual isn't saying "6"" rule in those words, but may very well be telling me the same thing. Thanks Dave

    5.0 mercruiser Alpha1 Stalls in reverse

    I have a mercruiser 5.0 with an alpha 1 gen II. seems to work fine in forward (by the way this is on muffs), but when put in reverse and try to throttle it stalls. Any suggestions please? Thanks Dave

    Possible engine trouble..... opinions wanted please.

    I started to pump out my oil yesterday to find what seems to possibly be water in the oil. The oil is a bit thin and brownish. I bought the boat without a test drive..... when I looked at the boat and checked the dipstick all looked and smelled fine, as it did right before I started to pump it...

    Merc 5.0..... use same oil as car?
