    1985 18xd won't fire

    Can't get 18xd to fire.Thought I had a fuel problem but think l got that figured out. Put the spark plug test light on and only a faint light showing.I wanted to remove the flywheel but don't have a puller.Shined flashlight underneath and all looks good.What should I try now?

    Mercury 18 electric choke

    My Merc 18 has an electric choke solenoid but its not connected to the choke plate in any way. Its just attached to the top of the carburetor. How does this engage the choke?

    18xd bent prop shaft

    If you spin the prop shaft on my 18xd merc you can tell the shaft is bent. Although there is no noticeable vibration in WOT and l/u gear lube is clear with no metal or water present. I can't afford a $300 prop shaft. A machine shop could straighten the shaft but the heat process to straighten it...

    74 Evinrude Sportster 25 HP

    I may be able to get my hands on a 74 evinrude sportster. Engine is not locked up and prop turns freely. It has been sitting outside for probably 20 years? Will this motor be worth the trouble?

    Have a 1985 merc 18xd and repair manual. All specifications for 18xd and 25xd are identical (stroke,bore,displacement,etc are exactly the same. The only differences are the rpm range for the 25xd is about 500 rpm higher than the 18xd and the high speed jet size for the 25xd is .080 and the 18xd...

    Can somebody tell me the difference in these motors besides the obvious horsepower? Because I believe almost all parts are interchangeable.
