    So the question is if I can get this off is just the top cap and seals replaceable? From the parts blow-up it appears you have to change the whole unit. I maybe doing manual tilt yet again !!!:mad:

    88 johnson 20 water jacket gasket removal

    I need to put my thermostat back into the head. I have a brand new gasket on the jacket now, but when I removed all of the bolts the jacket did not separate from the head. What is the best way to get the jacket off ? I am thinking about using a long scraper type razor to split the gasket down...

    I need head bolts for 20hp johnson part # 0395027 will 0305027 work ? I hope I am posting this in the right place. I have searched and called high and low for these bolts. Does anyone know a part alternative since the head and crank case can be used for 20- 35 hp ?

    If I can find the bevel gear b for this engine can you simply replace the gear? I know the service manual recommends you replace them all but if I can get a few more trips out of the lower end by only changing the b gear, I think it would be worth it. My b gear has a few pieces of the teeth...

    78 4hp do recoil spings wear out or can they be oiled ??

    My recoil spring will not pull back the cord very well. If you tug the cord a little it want's to recoil but will not pull the cord all the way back in.
