What should be done to carbs, and how often?

I have my 1996 Johnson 150 Oceanrunner (J150EXEDB) disassembled to install a new rebuilt powerhead. In the 5 years that I have owned the motor the carbs have not been off the engine. Never had any fueling issues (new powerhead is because old block was cracked). The carbs look pretty simple...

Question for the upholstery folks about marking vinyl...

Re: Question for the upholstery folks about marking vinyl... Well, I tried laying out my pleating on the foam instead of the vinyl and sewing upside down. It works just great and saves a lot of time. I made two long boat seat cushions and ran into a limitation of my little portable upholstery...

Re: Question for the upholstery folks about marking vinyl... Thanks for all the great ideas and kind words. I'd never touched a sewing machine in my life before embarking on this project. Now I can't pass up a sewing machine without stopping to check it out. I found this old Pfaff on Craigslist...

Question for the upholstery folks about marking vinyl...

Re: Question for the upholstery folks about marking vinyl... Now that's funny! I've been racking my brain trying to come up with the right pencil when all I needed to do was flip the material over. I never in a million years would have thought of that. I'll try it on a practice piece. I have...

Question for the upholstery folks about marking vinyl...

I am recovering my boat seat cushions with marine vinyl. I am sewing straight pleating and diamond pleating on some of the panels and I need to lay out my stitch lines on the vinyl. I tried a plain pencil but the graphite is actually quite permanent on the white marine vinyl. Next I tried a red...

Re: 1996 Cajun Fishmaster 2100CC restoration begun... I feel pretty lucky that my floor is very solid. I'm going to remove the fuel tank and clean it out, replace fuel lines. The plastic tank is sagging a little on top but doesn't leak. I got the carpet removed and sanded all the glue off with...

1996 Cajun Fishmaster 2100CC restoration begun...

I got this old boat pretty cheap 5 years ago. It needed restored back then. It really needs it now. I brought the boat home to install a rebuilt powerhead and decided to deal with the nasty old carpet and seat cushions. Before stripping: I would like to eliminate the carpet but there may be...

Oh boy, have I got a crack...

Re: Oh boy, have I got a crack... Great info. I didn't realize this design had issues. Boobie, you hit the nail right on the head. Water in #1 cyl. Going from the thermostat, across two o-rings, and into the cylinder. See the pics. And now I learn that the crack could also be watering the same...

Oh boy, have I got a crack...

I bought a good fishing boat so cheap that the engine was basically free. The owner, a fishing guide, had the powerhead rebuilt by a reputable shop. Not too long afterward something went bang and the block was cracked. I don't think I got the whole story but I was able to buy the boat and motor...

    My powerpack is leaking?

I unplugged the two connectors from my powerpack and one of them is full of black oil. The top of the motor is dry. Can this be coming from inside the powerpack? This can't be good. Motor is a '96 J150EXEDB.

Need recommendation for shop to weld cracked block...

Re: Need recommendation for shop to weld cracked block... Here's the pic. Starboard side, #1 cyl. on the left, carbs on the right, crack in between. That's someone's early attempt at JB Weld, which is also cracked. The crack goes up over the top and disappears under the flywheel. The flywheel...

Should water be coming from this area?

Engine is 150EXEDB. I installed a new water pump on this engine for the first time. Used a full kit, not just an impeller. Also installed new thermostats. Running it on the muffs we have very strong telltale flow but also water is pouring from the area circled in the photo below. I don't know if...

Can I use a marine radio as a base station in the house?

I have a marine radio in the boat for emergencies and listening to the fishing guides on our lake. I have an extra antenna and was wondering if I could rig up a marine radio back at the cabin. What is the proper device to power a 12vdc radio from a 120vac household circuit?

Online BRP part diagrams help needed...

I was wondering if anyone can help me with the BRP parts diagrams. I can navigate the tree right down to my specific engine. There is a list of categories, "Carb & Intake Manifold" all the way through "Throttle Linkage". But I can't get any further. How do you get a diagram? I have the feeling I...

    Optical ignition analyzers...

I have a 1996 Johnson 150 looper with the OIS 2000 ignition. It appears that the optical ignition analyzer is a very useful tool for this system. However, they are $300 for oem and $200 for aftermarket (CDI) which is not really feasible for a shadetree mechanic with one engine. I found several...
