Is this a mistake? (odd pricing on Westland covers)

I'm looking for a new cover for my Wellcraft Classic 190 and found this on iBoats: http://boatcovers.iboats.com/Wellcraft/190_Classic_(1987-1989)_Westland-V219/6256/ The pricing seems odd.. Sharkskin Supreme is the best fabric right? But it's (a good bit) less th an the Sharkskin Plus. I...

Mercruiser 470 Froze over the winter

Well, my father forgot to winterize our 470 over the winter and of course the fresh water that was left in the heat exchanger froze. So far I see that the aft end cap on the exchanger appears to be bowed out and leaking. What other damage can I expect this to have caused?

470 Rocker covers all the same?

I'm trying to find a new rocker cover for my 1987 Merc 470. I have found a site selling them for 1976-1979, but aren't they all based on the same ford head? Wouldn't they all be the same regardless of year? Here is the link to the one I found...

When do you put your plug in?

I see lots of posts where people list their launch prep procedure and all of them that I can remember has them putting their plug in at the Marina/launch ramp parking lot. We just got our first boat about a month ago but so far I've been pulling the plug to drain the water out (if there is any)...

    Throttle 'sticky'

When acclerating, if I smoothly move the throttle up, the engine rpms change in jumps, instead of a smooth increase. Makes docking very hard since I go from not moving to like 5mph speed with nothing in between. Is this an issue with the throttle mechanism, the cables in between or the linkage...

Sonofa... I cracked my rocker cover...

Ok, so I thought I had a 470 with no leaks at all after changing the head gasket and fixing the coolant leak it had. but now I'm leaking oil because I apparently made one of the screws on the rocker cover to tight (Who has an inchLb torque wrench.. really!) I tried fixing it with jbweld but it...

    Question for Bond-O

I'm curious. Do you actually type 'Ayuh' out at the beginning of every post or do you copy/paste it from post to post? :p

    470 Head torquing question

In Service manual #8, in the head installation section, it says: "...cylinder head bolts must be retorqued after engine has been brought to normal operating temperature. Failure to do this can result in head gasket failure." Does this mean I have to actually retorque the bolts while the...

    Alternatives for Perfect Seal?

The Mercruiser Service Manual says to use Perfect Seal on the manifold gaskets. However, our local dealer only sells it by the 5 gallon drum or something ridiculous. What can we use instead? Preferably something I can just go buy at the autoparts store.

Help me locate this coolant leak (Merc. 470)

I have a pretty good coolant leak (about half gallon per hour of runtime) on my 1987 165hp Mercruiser 470. I don't believe it's the camshaft seal as both the seal and the camshaft itself were replaced appx. 20 hours ago. The coolant is pooling in the bilge when running on the water, however...

Tube from coolant overflow bottle lid?

On my Merc.470 the cap on the coolant overflow bottle has a tube connection on it but there's no tube connected to it. There is a tube going from the coolant reservoir tank neck to the bottom of the bottle but that's it. Should there be a tube attached to the lid? is that just for drainage if...

    Water coming from exhaust?

We had my engine (470) running out of water for the first time today in order to change the coolant. I noticed while we were doing this (using Muffs) that a bit of water appeared to be spurting out of the exhaust through the prop. is this normal or should the exhaust air be completely dry?

Manual for single outdrive power trim?

I downloaded Mer Manual #6 but it only has a section for dual power trim. I only have a single outdrive with a rocker switch for both tilt and trim. Where can I find service information for this set up? I think the limiter is bad on my trim switch as only 'trim down' works, trim up does not...

Just bought my first boat/Hello iBoats!

Well, I just bought my first boat and THEN I found this site. I probably should have done that the other way around, but hopefully I've made a good choice. I picked up a 19' 1987 Wellcraft Classic 190. It's in very good shape appearance wise, especially the upholstery for an older boat. It...
