    454 mag mpi chuggles/stalls

It would be good to have the Diacom connected and recording when you do these tests. Lots of folks go through endless frustration swapping and throwing parts at MPI engines.

    I Got Me a Mercury !!!

A couple of updates to the Mercury saga . . . The engine would not cold start. If I did a spray of fuel into the carburetor it would fire right up. So, I took the carburetor apart and did some cleaning. It did not look bad at all and had evidence of previous maintenance. After some...

    454 mag mpi chuggles/stalls

BTW - I had to Google "chuggles" . . . "Chuggle" can refer to two main things: a type of dog breed or the act of drinking something quickly. As a dog breed, a "chuggle" is a cross between a Chihuahua and a Puggle (itself a Pug and Beagle mix) Perhaps your engine is 'drinking too quickly' . ...

    454 mag mpi chuggles/stalls

OK, since you have the Diacom software, my suggestion is to connect it when the engine is running (i.e. cooperating) record a few minutes of data, Then do the same when the engine is not cooperating. (you won't get much data, but run it while you are cranking the motor, etc.) I would expect...

    2006 Volvo out drive thumping

That might be a @Scott Danforth question. If I had to guess, I'd say it is about the amount of torque.

    2006 Volvo out drive thumping

I know the Bravo drives are ok in shallow waters at idle speed. Maybe others not so much.

    2006 Volvo out drive thumping

Gimbal bearing or U-Joints. Either way the drive has to come off. A mechanics stethoscope may give you a better indication of the source of the 'thumping'. Have you driven the boat at cruising speed with this issue? is it better or worse? Are you planning on fixing this yourself?

2016 Mercruiser 6.2L ECT DTS Axius Cooling System Issue

Thanks everyone 🙏 . . . I appreciate the guidance and moral support. I am not sure what the temperature is supposed to be. I looked in the engine manual (section 7) but did not see any specification for riser temperature range. I think 190˚F ish still may be too hot, but maybe the CAT risers...

2016 Mercruiser 6.2L ECT DTS Axius Cooling System Issue

Here are my recordings from this morning . . . Since I did the Port engine first yesterday, I started with the Starboard engine today. The key difference is that coming out of the harbor, the exhaust riser temp is in the 140˚F range and goes up from there. When I record the other engine, it...

2016 Mercruiser 6.2L ECT DTS Axius Cooling System Issue

There is not much information about the 'strainer' (8M0095457) in the cooling system. So, as part of my checking of the cooling system, I took the cover off the strainer. . Of course, it is smack dab behind the engine mount . . . . . Pretty much a bypass device with a 'screen' for the line to...

2016 Mercruiser 6.2L ECT DTS Axius Cooling System Issue

Hi Scott . . . I hope this helps. . . The ECT (glycol temp) is in the crossover casting that is in front of the engine. "Item #17" is the EMCT, but in a closed cooling configuration it is more appropriately called the "RCT" (Riser Temp). There is an internal block-off gasket (#13) that...

    2006 5.7L Mag Overheating

I didn't see this info in your other thread . . . Salt water or fresh water? Raw water cooled? or Closed cooling? Last time the manifolds and risers were inspected? It might be fairly quick to take the water inlet fitting off the transom assembly for a 'bravoitis' check. (The inlet at the...

2016 Mercruiser 6.2L ECT DTS Axius Cooling System Issue

I could temperature probe it fairly easily . . . not sure about measuring the flow. In other news . . . I drained, neutralized, and purged the oxalic acid that had been sitting in the risers overnight. Then I buttoned everything up and took the boat out for a test run with Diacom recordings...

90hp outboard died suddenly, wouldn't restart

Maybe it 'works' and killed the engine. You could exercise the switch to see if it makes a difference.

2016 Mercruiser 6.2L ECT DTS Axius Cooling System Issue

@Scott Danforth and others . . . Here are the flow diagrams for both the raw water and the glycol sides of the cooling system. . Raw Water Side . Raw Water Reference Chart . Glycol Side . I'm headed out to the boat soon to finish up my work from the past couple of days. Hopefully will come...

2016 Mercruiser 6.2L ECT DTS Axius Cooling System Issue

Well, I’m also thinking the manual is the more correct version, as the only way for raw water to exit the system is via the risers. The manual more clearly shows that.

2016 Mercruiser 6.2L ECT DTS Axius Cooling System Issue

BTW - for those who have not used oxalic acid, here is what 'AI' says about it. . . "Soaking an iron casting in an oxalic acid solution is a common method for removing rust. Oxalic acid effectively removes rust (iron oxide) by converting it into water-soluble iron oxalate, which can then be...

2016 Mercruiser 6.2L ECT DTS Axius Cooling System Issue

BTW - The more I think about the exhaust pieces, it looks like the best thing is to unbolt the riser from the exhaust manifold, swing it up 90-180˚ and pull it out of the rubber coupler (boot). Then the other pieces should come apart as needed.
