    How do I remove the top of the cowl

    I have a 1969 merc 65hp outboard. I can remove the faceplate and side cowl easily enough but am not sure the correct procedure to take off the top of it.     bow hook repair/replace

    I am not sure the proper way to repair this. It is snug under the bow but can reach the hardware holding the hook on. Also any ideas on how to remedy the bent trailer metal in the first pic? Hammer straight maybe? I appreciate the help as always.

    65hp Merc proper starting proceedure?

    I recently purchased a 1986 65 hp Mercury outboard and am not sure I am starting it properly. I lift the warmup lever bout half way and click the choke button and hold it in while I turn it over. It eventually starts but takes a while. Any help is greatly appreciated.
