Thanks, I’m kinda thinking about a short-term fix and then a real patch later.

At least she’ll tow well as I head to the lake to test the bilge pump!

So, is JB Marine the best solution to patch from the outside, or 5200, or is there some specialty product? I really wasn’t looking to gut the thing right now. Related question: what to use for bunks? And is it ok to move the bunks outside that chine? I mean structurally ok for the hull. The...

HELP!! Is there a fix for this, or am I screwed? Have had the boat about a month and have been working at getting the trailer squared away. Got new springs, axles, tires installed and slid suspension back to dial in the tongue weight. Next is bunks. With the boat lifted off the bunks a...

    Sneaky Snake- 1969 Jet Star

Been a long dry spell with no news from Sneaky. She pulled tender duty for years, was wrecked and rebuilt, now she needs a floor and seats again. Sold the houseboat, found a Chieftain, now she’s moving to Florida. Spent some time today getting road-ready. New tires, bearings.

I mentioned putting 15” wheels and tires on to match my other trailer, but I’m thinkin maybe 175/80R 13 just to keep it that inch lower. Any thoughts on that?

Back on the ground, everything retorqued under load. Moved the winch stand forward and scooted the boat up a few inches, managed to get at least a little tongue weight. More to come on that after I replace the winch and slide the suspension back a notch or two. Also need to replace and...

Got it mocked up with the wheelbarrow tires. I think, since I am going to remove the fender bolts to slide the suspension back anyway, I’ll mod the fender mounts to clear bigger tires.

Brown showed up with springs from etrailer today, and I got the trailer all cribbed up. Let’s see if we can make this thing roll again.

Thanks. Now if I can just find actual replacement! All of the resto threads are 60-odd pages. My questions specific to the outboard involve the splash well, whether to remove or not, that kind of thing. And as materials change is marine ply still best? Coosa?

I’ve been browsing restoration threads looking for transom replacements, especially outboard Chieftain. It feels pretty firm, but I’m almost positive that it’s original and will need attention at some point. Can anyone point me to a specific boat/thread?

Well, I already spent $650 0n springs and axles. I did browse FB and CL with no real luck. This trailer is galvanized, and the 5" channel frame is in decent shape- just chalky. I'll just have to replace a bunch of hardware when I redo the bunks and such. I hope to get some use from the boat...

My mom had a stove that was the same color! Thanks for the tank info. If it is a retrofit it’s really well done. I can see the opaque whitish tank through a window in the step. It has two ball valves mounted under the splashwell to switch tanks.

I had decided on 3500lb axles as well, until I started measuring for parts. Nothing off the shelf fits! I’m not sure what brand this trailer is, but it’s an oddball when it comes to contemporary standards. The leaf spring centers are 57.5” and hub face is 68.5”. Off-the-shelf axles are 58...

Gas tank question: She has a 15 gallon tank in a box under each seat. The previous owner thinks they were a replacement for an original belly tank. True?

I’ve considered that as well. Meanwhile, I was browsing CL awhile ago and found a trailer from obviously the same manufacturer for $500. ( just parts to replace it all are looking like $2500). From the pics it looks like it may be a smaller version of the trailer, but I’m going to go look and...
