No dipstick on 1989 era 3.0L?

Most of the marine motors I’ve been around in my life has been either 2.5 or 3.0L or straight 6. I have tons of 3.0L Alpha one gen 1 parts since I’ve torn apart 2 parts boats. It’s why when this boat came up and I knew what it was I bought it ( as well as it’s just a really nice boat )

No dipstick on 1989 era 3.0L?

Yup. I just couldn’t remember what it was. 4x4 trucks with a 90* adapter take a different filter though

No dipstick on 1989 era 3.0L?

I actually had to look up the oil filter for a ‘65 Chevy II so that I got the right filter since the marine section is no more. as for why I’m doing this vs going to a dealership. Trying to get the boat in the water this weekend and boat shops with a retail store are very out of the way.

No dipstick on 1989 era 3.0L?

I grabbed 15W40 Rotella T4. My local Walmart got rid of all the marine section in automative. Sporting goods section has the Penzoil and Startron gear lube.

No dipstick on 1989 era 3.0L?

What is an oil I can get locally that I can use? Walmart used to carry QS 25W40 but no more. They still carry the Penzoil 25W40 but I’m not sure about that stuff and it’s expensive. The old Merc manual says 40W which I can get at Tractor supply. It should always be above 50*. It also says no...

Eagle Claw Starfire X trolling combo’s. Any good ( enough )?

Helps get the lines up and away from the boat. It’s pretty easy to find 8’6-9’ rods around here but shorter rods not so much. Might be a regional way of thinking. Not sure. But taller rods closer to bow, shorter rods in the stern. The spread won’t tangle. Obviously dipsy divers and planers...

Eagle Claw Starfire X trolling combo’s. Any good ( enough )?

I looked at the ones in Walmart and they are Eagle feather lights and are a medium light action vs medium heavy but the reels are the same for the same price. they do have a 7’4 rod with a size 15 reel for like $74 that it looks like discounted to $67 bought online. Not really sure I want one...

Eagle Claw Starfire X trolling combo’s. Any good ( enough )?

I was in town yesterday so I picked up one of the Eagle claw combo’s. They listed they had 4 in stock but one was it. I also grabbed a Daiwa 8’6 downrigger medium heavy as well.

Eagle Claw Starfire X trolling combo’s. Any good ( enough )?

Never thought about watching the line guide travel to measure a set distance. Makes sense though as it’s constant and counting in 10’ lengths is easy math

    Tiny boat performance help

Principle of a teeter totter. The motor is going to push the stern down so it’s going to plow water until it can overcome that. If you equal the weight and equal the teeter totter more, you get a straighter forward motion. This is why most of the plastic bass boats have sliding seats

type and color of paint of Starcraft Islander.

Alkyd enamel is what SC used. You’ll spend $50 a gallon in today’s money at the hardware store. $75 at the paint store if you want the matched Color. I forgot to mention you’ll also want hardner. Or if you really want to spend some money for a notch above, you can use acrylic or urethane single...

Pushing Run-Flat tires to the limit

Few years ago I had a guy come in who was running on a blowout run flat for a couple days. Then couldn’t afford tires. Somehow that tire was HOT but you wouldn’t have known unless you looked on the inside

type and color of paint of Starcraft Islander.

Alkyd enamel is all you need. Sherwin Williams and possibly others can custom mix for you, or you could get whatever the hardware store has and roll with it. Rustoleum, or like Ace rust stop, Majic paint ect….

Eagle Claw Starfire X trolling combo’s. Any good ( enough )?

Anyone have any experience with them? 8’6 medium heavy with a line counter reel is $90 at Dicks sporting goods. Walmart has a similar rod and reel for same price but it’s probably built for WM as they do that. I’ve got to outfit my boat since I’ve never had a trolling boat myself and I need a...

Engine Suddenly revved and speed dropped, then recovered

Your shift cable probably isn’t holding position like it should. So you get it to pop out of gear and yes if it is no longer structural so to speak. Your cable is spinning on the other end

    Hangkai 6hp T6

It’s basically a Yamaha clone. Rebuild the carb. That premix OPE stuff is actually known to be pretty bad and not what an outboard should run anyway. I boil carbs in a light lemon juice mixture

No dipstick on 1989 era 3.0L?

Will the dipstick for a 250 Chevy 6cyl work? Tube and dipstick for a 3.0 is over $100.

    New old boat checklist.

Are there any gotcha’s with the impeller on the 9.9 Yamaha? Every video I looked at made it look like probably the easiest one to do. Ive watched probably 5 videos on it and each one does it a little differently with what gear it goes in to do the service but the basic service is still 4 bolts...
