Posible oil and water mix in mercruizer sterndrive

The serial numbers are on the air filter cover but all faded away. In the manual, I found this

Posible oil and water mix in mercruizer sterndrive

Do you mean in the system for trimming the outdrive? I have oil mixing in the gearbox not the trimming system if that is what you mean

Posible oil and water mix in mercruizer sterndrive

I finally had time again to take out the boat on the water. Now I know 100% certain that the oil and water are mixing. There is an overflow on the vent cap, and when I drained a bit of oil, it is milky blue. If I wanted to do a complete rebuild, what repair kit would I have to buy? When I had...

Posible oil and water mix in mercruizer sterndrive

I bought a boat last fall with a broken engine. I got a rebuilt 4.3 and got it installed in the winter. Also, I performed an oil change on the sterndrive. I took it on the water this last weekend. After a while on the water, I noticed that the oil from the sterndrive was spilling over from the...

Buying a boat with a broken Mecruiser sterndrive

I'm considering buying a boat with a 454 Chevy engine. The Mercruiser sterndrive is broken with stripped gears. Is the mecruiser sterndrive the same form as a boat with the 4.3 Chevy engine? If not, what is different? Does anyone know what the horsepower rating is on a Mercruiser sterndrive?

How to know what propeller my boat came with

I bought a 2004 Hurricane Sun Deck SD 187. From what I can tell, the propeller has been replaced at one point. How can I find out what it would have come with originally for pitch? The current one on there, I see these numbers 832830A45 19P I'm assuming that it is a 19 pitch. I have another...

Ford Winsor 351 Engine not winterized

I'm helping out a friend who did not winterize the engine in his boat. It is a Ford 351W I see that it has 6 core plugs on each side. On the left side, two popped, and on the right side, one popped. I told him I would need to install new core plugs and then take on the water to see if the oil...

4.3 that I was not winterized

Put the heads and intake back on with new gaskets and created block off plates. Pressurized to 15 psi. No leaks holds steady pressure. I got lucky. Also checked the pistons and they are .40 over so it is a rebuilt engine.

4.3 that I was not winterized

That makes sense. I have seen it a few times in my lifetime working with engines.

4.3 that I was not winterized

I know. Everyone calls them freeze plugs, and like @alldodge I have seen engines where the "freeze plugs" kept the block from cracking. They poped, and the block was fine

4.3 that I was not winterized

I bought a boat, knowing that the engine was not winterized. It is the 4.3 Chevrolet V6. I have swapped and rebuilt a few of these engines, so I'm very familiar with them. While the engine was still in, I had it running with water connected. I noticed that the freeze plugs popped, and both the...

Boat with paint cracks and hull damage

I'm not doing this project to sell. That is not even on my mind. I don't know what I will do when the day comes for me to get rid of the boat. I have not given that any thought. This is my last comment on anything related to what I want to do with this project as far as the engine goes. My...

Boat with paint cracks and hull damage

Thank you for all of the input. This post started with a question about gel coat cracks, and I added a side note about what I'm doing with the boat. And here we are.

Boat with paint cracks and hull damage

I'm not planning on making that kind of mistake. The fuel lines will be just as well done on the Touareg I'm using for the engine. If the Touareg is safe, then the boat will also be. I get where you are coming from. You don't know me, and neither do you know my skill level. I'm not a backyard...
