    Proper Boat Grounding

The bonding wire is confusing me. I have been on ASME Standard committees so I‘m a bit critical on the clarity of standards. Assuming the reference below is actually from the ABYC standard, the committee that wrote this standard definitely needs help on clarifying their standard as in my opinion...

helm wiring, should be simple, i'm not too bright.

I rebuild/semi restore 1950 Craftsman vintage drill presses and some other vintage tools. There is a guy on the garagejournal.com site that makes reproduction decals for all types of items. I have bought a few from him that he made from pictures of the original I sent him with dimensions. Very...

    Proper Boat Grounding

Looked through some posts and some of the links in the sticky posts no longer work after a few decades! I think I know the answer but wanted to make sure. The wiring on my 1998 Sylvan 17’ Blue Fish doesn’t look up to my standards and I will most likely clean it up a bit in the spring and if any...

Jeez! What happened to global warming

I agree with buying wood. If I had to buy wood, I would just turn up the furnace. But there is some type of satisfaction in falling the tree, cutting, stacking, burning and the heat of the fire. When I move the wood from the shed to the staging rack in the garage, I can recognize a piece now and...

Jeez! What happened to global warming

Live in NW Indiana, about 1 hr SE of Chicago. Start burning around Thanksgiving. Usually burn 24/7 until the temperature get back to the mid 30’s F., around late March, then burn at night. Have a Lopi insert. I would estimate I go through 1-1/2 to 2 cords. I stack my wood in 13’ rows, 7’ tall...

    projects other than boats

I rebuild/semi restore old power tools then sell them as one of my too many hobbies, primarily 1960 vintage Craftsmen drill presses but other things now and then. Here are some before and after pics of a Craftsman wet grinder on what I believe is a Delta stand. Added oil cups and brass and...

    2025 NFL/CFB News and Nonsense

Totally agree. Not sure MNF has the draw it had say in the 1980’s, but I always felt every team should have an appearance on MNF to promote the league and every team. Being a Packer fan, they sucked then and were never on MNF, but they did have some great players that never got any limelight.

Bought a 1998 Slyvan 17” Blue Fish this fall from the original owners, as I was going to retire and the Mrs. loves to fish. But my boss conned me into another year. (Work from home so easy money.) The boat has a MinnKota Deckmate on the bow but no anchor. The only place you’ll find that anchor...

I find it interesting how when hooked up, the boat dwarfs the size of the tow vehicle. The Subaru towed the Sylvan with no issues. Kept off the interstate most of the was and kept it below 65 most of the time. Of course braking was a little more noticeable but nothing to worry about.

Just joined. Sold the only boat I owned about 20 years ago, a 12 aluminum Sea Nymph. As I will retire within a year, my better half, who is more of a fisherman than me, suggested we get a boat. Found a decent 1989 17’ Sylvan Blue Fish from the original owner, with manuals. Has a 75 HP Mercury...
