    Wanting to add guide ons

I'm going to add some to the trailer and I'm going to make them myself. My tentative plans are to take some 3" wide 3/16 plate and at most 20" long length up the sides of the boat to tee off to a 18" carpeted 2X4 rail. I will have a make a few bends to follow the contour of the boat and...

part #'s for my 4.3 liter buzzer project

Went to Napa and found what I needed for the temp and oil pressure alarm/buzzer I am putting in my boat. This is for an OMC 4.3 liter but should be the same for any 4.3 liter. The temp switch can go on either head as there is a plug on both sides. Funny thing is, the plug has an odd size...

1993 4.3 OMC I have the gauges for the oil and temp but I want to add an idiot buzzer for those who may drive the boat that don't keep a visual on the gauges. Where can I get a buy the pressure switch and temp switch and where would I mount the oil pressure switch. I think I can figure out...

    Bow safety chain attachment

Should the safety chain be attached fore or aft of the bow eye at the trailer end. In other words is the chain mainly there to prevent the boat from going back or is it there to prevent it from jumping up and over into the towing vehicle. I know the winch strap should be ran under the roller...

A couple question about model #'s and manuals

I have a 1993 4.3 OMC Cobra Model # 432APRJVB with vertical drive # of 987344. I am looking at a service manual set online that says its for 1993 OMC KING COBRA & COBRA JV models. It has a part # of P/N 508288. Will that work for what I have? I thought the JV stood for 'joint venture' as...

    compression good?

Measured my '83 85 hp Force and I get 115 PSI on all 3 with no oil injected in the cylinders and cold. Is that fairly good? I imagine it creeps up to 120 PSI once it warms up. We ran the boat this Saturday for quite a while with a full load and gear. Pulling skiers and tube for a good part...

    boat pulls to the right

If I am thinking right, wouldn't I adjust the trim tab to the left a bit? This is on an outboard if it matters. And what is this I hear about torque steer (if that is the term), what way does a boat normally want to pull. Brett

How far can I go 'mileage'

Being farely new to my boat and boating for that matter. I can't say that I know how far I can go on full tanks of gas. Nor have I really paid attention to how long we are out. What I have is a '87 16' Capri with a 85 Hp outboard. For fuel I have two 6 gallon tanks. I normally just go about...

Making a homade tripod, it consists of a 4' 1/8 wall tube. It sits and in is bolted at the bottom to a swivel-eze type seat floor mount which is bolted to 1.5' of floor plywood. Then it has 2 arms that go to the top of the rear deck just in front of the transom. Using some mounts that are...

Does the engine charge the battery?

I hope this is not a dumb question but when the motor is running, does it put a charge on the battery? And if so is it ok to run a stereo of the system. I am fairly new to 2 stroke outboards and know how the motor provides the timing and spark to run. Just wondering if there is a charge going...

What you guys use for earmuffs?

I went out and bought some earmuffs to use on my Force 85 hp but they dont work. In fact I broke them trying to get them around the gear housing. If the intake was on the higher part of the lower end like other engines they would have worked. But with the intake on the very bottom sides and...
