I hate outboards.
Hate 'em.
Absolutely, categorically, hate 'em.
Once again, I'm not fishing. I'm never fishing. Three outboards on two different boats over the last 5 years, and probably 2/3 of the times I wanted to go fishing I couldn't because of motor troubles.
I thought the most recent...
I'm looking for a good mechanic in the area willing to work on my ancient outboard.
Motor is 1962 Johnson 40hp Super Seahorse (RDS-24).
I'm looking for a reputable and reasonably priced mechanic within an hour of Ypsilanti, MI.
Yesterday I found I had a broken spring in my fuel pump - and after diligent searching of the internet and my service manual... I can't ind a part number or anything else to help me find a replacement.
I can find the fuel pump rebuild kit - but it doesn't have replacement springs.
Anyone out...
I'm not currently in any position to re-power my boat (heck - I'm barely in position to put gas in it), but we all have dreams - and it seems like whenever I do decide to do it, I'm going to have to take a serious step down due to weight concerns.
My boat is 1961 14' Cherokee Aluminum runabout...
Motor: 1961 Johnson Super Seahorse 40HP (RDS-23)
So I got this motor a few months back, I've had it out a few times - it's ran well, started easy, no real problems to speak of.
I'd like to do some general maintenance/tune-up activities - but I want to minimize my effort and re-work, so I'm...
I'm in the process of setting up the Mystery Boat (http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=307360) and I'm wondering about motor height.
Motor is a 1961 Johnson Seahorse 40hp (RDS-23).
I know generally you'd like to have the AV plate about even with keel.
I know with many older motors you...
I currently have two motors that I can use on my boat - and I don't plan on keeping both. One will be going up for sale, and I'm trying to decide which.
Assuming both currently in relatively good running condition, which would you keep - and why?
1961 Johnson Super Seahorse 40hp (RDS-23) -...
So I took the Mystery Boat (http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=307360) out for its maiden voyage on Saturday.
All in all, things went well... and it didn't strand me on the lake so I can't complain.
She runs out 28-29mph with my wife and I in the boat, and handled nicely during the...
So I have a Mariner 422R trolling motor I picked up last year, and I need some documentation... anyone have anything? Manual, wiring diagram, mounting instructions, specs, anything?

Registration says 1962 Chriscraft.
14 foot, aluminum runabout. Don't what it really is... no capacity tag, serial number, nothing...
My best guess at this point is a Duratech Marlin

Now that I found out I have bad stringers, as well as the bad transom and deck, I figured I might as well make a full on project thread with pictures and a running cost total, etc.
The boat is a Glastron V-147 Fish 'N Ski. I bought it with a "good running" 1966 Mercury 500 (we'll see if it is...
I need to do stringers, deck, and transom on my 1969 Glastron V-147, and I'm looking for some help from you fiber glass experts on estimating costs and what I need for the job. The wood I can handle, I know what that costs.
Here are the details - sizes are a bit overestimated.
Transom:
65"x30"...
So, after tearing away at the floor some more - it looks like I'm going to be putting in new stringers also. The current stringers are dimensional, 1"x4" (or possibly 6") - the longest just under 12'.
I can replace these with 3/4" PT plywood, but it will have a joint.
Or I can replace with...
As I'm ripping out the deck in my Glastron V-147 I'm thinking of just how I want to replace it. My preference is for a removable deck. Here is my thought -
The original deck was fiberglass over 1/2" plywood. The plywood only went out to about 1" from the hull, the very edge where the deck...
