    Mercury 4-stroke Gas leak

So I fired her up in the driveway and she started right away. I did it with the cap off completely. Then I disassembled the cap and did a thorough cleaning, even though it looked just fine. Finally I put the cap back on and open the vent and she ran good then too. So I still don't know the...

    Mercury 4-stroke Gas leak

9 year old 3.5 HP kicker. I had trouble last year and had the carb rebuilt. It ran fine after that. So, it's 92 F today and full sun. I try to fire her up and she started to run but then choked and gas was running out of the carb overflow line. Shut off the gas shutoff valve and it...

    Non-skid for aluminum floors

Every motor is paired with a boat. All period correct. The rest are restored and mothballed for long term storage.

    Non-skid for aluminum floors

Yes. The boat is a 1964 and the PFDs are period correct. They are used only for display purposes. When underway we use modern technology.

    Need A Metallurgist's Advice

Thanks to all for your replies. The boat is ready to sail so this oldie will be a Winter project. I'll reply with the results when I do it.

Would a hand held propane torch be adequate? The bars are aluminum.

    Need A Metallurgist's Advice

Picked up a 1945 Neptune outboard at a garage sale. The PO bent the tabs on the bottom of the gas tank for whatever reason. The tabs are to support the motor when set down. I have an idea how to bend them back straight again, but I thought I would see what y'all have to say. I'm afraid that...

    New Bow Roller

I have the same shape on 2 of my boats. One has a pointy stem and fits tight against the center of the roller. The other has a rounded stem and only contacts the outer edges. Both work fine - no problems. The only issue I see is that it is black rubber. Both of mine are poly, which in my...

    outdrive primer paint

Aluminum requires a zinc chromate or acid etching primer. I'm not sure about epoxy. My suggestion would be to contact the manufacturer and see if it is compatible with aluminum.

    How much is it worth?

To me it is worth zero. Not a boat I would consider buying. It's too old and a low end brand.

18ft Boat Launch with RWD Suburban

I thought I had seen everything. Then, recently I happened to come across a few YouTube videos entitled "Ramp Failures". I never saw so much stupidity.

18ft Boat Launch with RWD Suburban

Rear wheels wet? I don't think so!!! Unless you have a "ramp" that is not designed right, if you can't walk behind the car to work the winch you are backed in too far. Back in 1968 I read a book called "The Trailer Boater's Guide". Every aspect of launching back then is still true today...

18ft Boat Launch with RWD Suburban

I have been launching with a 2 wheel, rear wheel drive since 1968. I never had a problem. I have people come up to me when I was pulling out my Stingray with my Ponch and tell me I can't do it. When the job is done effortlessly they simply walk away with no other comments. We had the rig...

    Trailer Set Up

You definitely need a bow eye. That setup with the eye up that high is certainly odd. I like the idea of the bow roller, but it needs to be lowered. The keel needs to sit on it, not against it. New carpet for sure. A roller on each crossmember is how my trailers are set up. I also prefer...

    Boat Cover Repair?

I ripped a cover once. It was brown cotton twill canvas. My wife's standard sewing machine handled it nicely. She stitched across the tear to put it together, and then sewed a patch over the top. That boat was garage kept. The cover was only used for vacation travel, and for inside Winter...
