I’m currently working on getting this project boat going. It’s a decent shape 06 Tahoe Q4. I found a rebuilt low hours ‘87 3.0l to replace the seized 3.0l that was originally in the boat. I left the 87’s shaft coupler on the motor not thinking about the gen 2 outdrive differences. With the shaft fit in the coupler correctly or am I pulling the motor and placing the coupler from the seized motor on it?!? Anything else I should know about from y’all’s experience?

Get a proper 1991 or later 3.0 and save yourself a whole bunch of headaches

I understand that, but is it possible to run it. I have everything from the 2006 motor to swap over.
As long as the driveshaft from the gen two inserts the same distance as the coupler on olde engine it will work. I think it should but since you have both engine sin front of you measure the coupler distance to the rear motor mounts i think you will find them the same ?

the splines on the two couplers are the same, so depth is the only issue. The couplers will not swap between engines as the older one is a two piece rear main seal and coupler bolts to the crank. 91 and up engines use a single piece rear seal and larger flyhweel diameter coupler bolts to flywheel

Just flywheel/coupler issues, or something else?
I think maybe head and manifold as well. not sure exactly when that cut over is but there are two listings for heads and manifolds. If you have a complete bobtail like Bondo said I don't think it matters. If you were swapping long blocks might be a different story

Thanks everyone for the replies. Going to hopefully finish up the install Friday.
