03,20hp merc.won't idle

had trash in float bowl and fuel pump.rebuilt carb and fuel pump.will only run by keeping the bulb full.have put screw clamps on all connections.it sat outside last winter,could carb body b cracked maybe and cause it to suck air?have had it apart 5 times now,getting weary .any help would b appreciated

First thing I would do is disconnect fuel line where it comes out of fuel pump and make sure that pump is working. Connect a length of fuel hose long enough to run into a container for safety. If pump is ok check for cracks in fuel lines before the bulb. It would be a good idea to change out the bulb as they are prone to failure. Get a factory brand (any make) not the aftermarket ones as they are a waste. Once you eliminate this area, move towards carb.

Is it fresh gas? By fresh I mean this yr if not dump and start new. Also dump the gas in the fuel filter and flush the line with new mix. Lastly Did you put the needle in the carb back in the same amount of turns.

sorry fellows,was outa town for awhile.will ck the pump.have tried 3 differant bulb assem. off of my other boats.to gruntinbuck,all new gas needle is same amount of turns thanks,roy
