I have a 04' 75hp 4 stroke on a 16' Crestliner 1600 it seems when I go to launch it, it starts fine but dies easily... sometimes I can reverse off the trailer but when I go back to neutral it dies. .. fire it back up kick it into forward and dock it... it dies. .. it will do this till I get it out on open water and get going WOT then it's good for the rest of the day....

Just bought this boat and the current fuel in it i have no idea how old it is....

Or is it just a cold engine and needs to get warmed up? I tried to leave it on idle while I went to park my truck but it died by the time I came back...

Spark plugs look good and engine looks really clean on the inside... I'm leaning towards fuel being a little old... I put 27 miles on my boat Saturday .. burned thru 1/4 tank. .. gonna top it back off with some high octane next trip...

Any other thoughts...?

High octane is of no value, save your money. Carbed 4 strokes can be cold blooded, and if the choke system isn't working or is out of adjustment it can be worse.

Interesting. .. my biggest fear is clogging up the boat ramp cuz my engine keeps dieing... any advice on how to keep it running so things go smoother?

SO, you do not know if the fuel is good,
adding new fuel to bad will give you more bad fuel.
Try running it on a portable tank with new fuel to see if that helps.
If it does get rid of the old fuel

If it does not help then you probably need to have A Yamaha trained tech check your motor out and see what is out of wack

I would install a 10 micron spinon water separating filter, stops all water and bad stuff.
To high octane can hurt your motor, use the octane your factory service manual says.
You said you put 27 miles on the boat sat, burned a 1/4 tank, the fuel is working.
You have dirty carbs, you need to clean them with carb cleaner and compressed air all openings if your boating budget can afford it get rebuild kits.

well once I get it out... its fine the rest of the day... I can fish for an hour or 2 and it turns on just fine.... I always make sure to bump it on for a few minutes every so often while watching my battery gauge from listening to music and watching my fish finder.... don't wanna have a dead battery....
