Sorry to have to repost but i really need to get this fixed. My 04' 90hp Johnny wont power up. By that i mean it acts like there isnt even a battery hooked to it. However the trim works and everything on the boat works. I have checked the fuse multiple times WITH a meter. (ohmed). I have probed and ohmed wires and still have nothing. Im showing 12.5 volts at the key switch and at the starter solenoid. Also everywhere i probe a wire i get 12.5 volts. Key switch has been replaced also. Bypassed neutral safety switch.

Would a bad solenoid cause this behavior?

Sure.
Bypass the solenoid and see if it turns over then.

Thanks for the reply tim. Its not really the fact that its not turing over its like i said, its as if i didnt even have a battery hooked to it. normally when you turn the key on it will give one beep from the warning horn and the tack lights will all light up as a test ya know, but it doesnt do any of that now...the gas gauge isnt even reading. every bad solenoid ive ever dealt with would still allow the systems to come on it would just click and not turn the starter over.

okay you said you checked the fuse. Great.

Now here is another place to use your meter.

To key on.

Use your meter starting at the starter and check for 12 volts.
Check your solenoid for 12 volts.
Need 2 people for this one.
Turn key over and test the switched side of solenoid for 12 volts.

These are the 3 starting places.

Hope this helps.

Could it be the starter switch itself?
