Looking at an '04 Monterey 190LS w/ 5.0 mercruiser. What's the thought on these boats? I don't see too much mention about this brand. Their website is probably one of the better ones built. Lots of info. The new ones seem really nice.

Monterey is a independent boat company and is not owned by Brunswick. A little side note the founder of Monterey Boats is the nephew of the founder of Chaparral boats.

TD isn't wrong often. However, this is one of those times. Monterery is independent.

I really like the current Monterey boats. I was quite impressed with them at the recent boat show here locally. I think their nationally just now getting to be known. I think they were previously only really seen in the south as they are built in Florida.

Re: '04 Monterey 190LS

This is what the owner emailed me when I asked him about the boat maintenance history. In addition to the items below, he said he changed the oil/filter after each season. Can someone read over and let me know what they think about the maintenance history?

Nothing else was needed. The drive bearings are permalubed and don't need to be lubed as well as the spline shaft The water pump is working fine. All oil
levels are at proper levels. I've had boats all my life this is one of the
easiest to maintain. We also put fuel stabilizer in every year. Pulled the
removable water jacket plugs and drained before every winter(there is 5
plugs that you take out to drain all the water to prevent freezing).
Freezing is not a concern here but I pull them anyway. Have waxed the boat
with a high end polymer protectant. The prop shaft has been lubed each year. The stainless prop was tuned by a prop shop for this boat. The wheel
bearings on the trailer are lubed every year they have bearing buddies on
them so repacking is not needed. We had a custom cover made its always
covered and was kept in the garage then I built a car port it was kept there
until august of 2008 is has been covered in the drive way. The prop cost was
over $400. the cover was over $500.

Not true, there are zerk fittings. Probably OK, but not true.

water pump is working fine.
It needs an impeller NOW.
Nothing else was needed.
It needs a drive alignment and the Gimbal bolts torqued. I assume the drive lube has been regularly changed, but really can't tell. Also, needs all of the steering and shift linkage points lubed. Tune up? Plugs? Distributor Cap?

Re: '04 Monterey 190LS

My opinion: It sounds like he has better than average knowledge of what yearly maintenance to do to a boat. I say this because he is at least knowledgeable enough to pull the prop and lube once a year (I bet 90% of boat owners don't do this), add stabilizer each year, and drains the block each and every year despite there being no freeze issues where the boat is stored.

The fact that the boat is used where there are no freeze issues makes me wonder if its used in salt water? If this is the case, I would have wanted to read that he flushed it after each use.

How many hours on this boat?

Despite my notes, I agree with sickwilly. Those are items that do need attention now though . . .
