I posted about this topic awhile back but had no luck figuring it out. Have a little more info now so posting again in hopes that someone will have a suggestion.
Motor is a 2005 Mercury 60hp four stroke efi. I am at a loss at what else to do. I have had it in the shop and they can not recreate the problem but it happens every time I take the boat out. The boat will crank and run perfect the first time out. Anywhere from 5 minutes of running all the way to 30 minutes. Then after it sits for some time, it will crank and idle fine, then when I go to get to full throttle it will start spitting and sputtering and not getting RPM’s. Like it’s starving for fuel. I can pull the throttle back to idle and it will still be idling rough and sometimes die. If it dies, typically it will start right back up and then run normally again. Sometimes, it just takes sitting at idle for a few minutes and then it will pick up and run normally again. Squeezing the primer bulb does nothing when it’s doing that so I don’t think it’s the low pressure pump. I have completely drained my gas from the motor, all lines and tank and started fresh. I have changed all filters and the line from the tank to the motor. It still does it. The last time I took it out, it ran fine for about 45 minutes at varying speeds, then started losing RPM’s and doing the same thing it normally does after sitting for awhile. When I brought it back to neutral/idle, it died out after about a minute. Then it fired back up and ran normal the rest of the way to where we stopped for a few hours. After cranking back up to leave, it idled fine, then started getting up to speed and acted like it was going to start spitting and sputtering but never did and got on up to speed. Does anyone have any ideas of what this could be? The shop here told me until it actually breaks and stays broke then they can’t figure it out he said they could start changing parts but that’s not a guarantee either. The compression is good on all cylinders and no codes related to this was found by the shop
