07 225 Optimax Stalling not Running

Hi,

I have an 07 Opti on a Bass boat that has 40 hrs. When I got the boat(last week) she sounded a little rough on the garden hose, so I drained the fuel tank and put 10 gals of fresh fuel and a can of sea foam. Then went to launch her on the river. She fired up and ran for 7-10 mins and after warming up i took her out and slowly brought the rpms up a little bit at a time. Ran great at WOT for about 5-8 mins, and then she hesitated a little and just quit. No alarms no nothing, almost like she just ran out of fuel. Started her back up easy tried to put in gear and she would die. After i kept trying to start here more and more she would run less and less. So trolled her back to trailer. Took to garrage and broke out the compression tester to see. All was good and very consistent. Dunno where to go now (certainly not to the dealers around here) Can anyone help. Oh also ran DDT and cleared faults, ran self test and all seems good.

Remove the pickup tube from the tank and check for any cracks or clogging of the screen.

What faults did you clear??? Have you checked the plugs?? Can you hear fuel pump running?? Has mechanical pump diaphram been changed? Have you changed air filter?

FAZTBULLET,

i just changed out the plugs. They looked good with the exception of the top 2, they had alot of carbon, the rest maybe a little oil on them. I fired her up yesterday, and she ran great in the cold on land for about 10 min. Then she started stalling again. After the first stall she started and quit immediately. Then she got harder and harder to start. I can hear the electric fuel pump kick on when i turn the key on. The air filter looks new. I have not checked the diaphrams but will do so. do i need to replace them if i remove them???

I ran the ddt again after she stalled yesterday and got nothing. The faults were: fuel, oil, trim, ckt ok. After i cleared them the first time they came back.

Also when she stalls, i checked the primer bulb and it was rock hard. so i dont think its in the lines comming from the tank, or the bulb losing pressure.

I know this might seem obvious but you didn't mention changing out the water/fuel seperator under the cowling. I'm sure you did but I thought I would check.

Which plugs are you running? you should have the NGK IZFR5G plugs. Does it "squeak" just before it stalls?

those are the plugs that i replaced. I dont recall her squeaking before the stalling. Its like you just shut the ignition off. Very abrupt. no hesitation or any attempt to keep running. I will fire her up and triple check about the squeaking. should i order the diaphram kit???

It doesnt sound like fuel so pass on the diaphram at this time, check the connections where boat harness enters engine as a loose connector will shut it down and also why you get the trim,fuel codes to pop back up on DDT.

As stupid as it sounds check your battery voltage.I had the same problem recently,changing the batteries fixed it.

check to see if there is fuel in the air side of the rail top fitting is fuel lower is air. is there more than usual smoke when trying to start it? sounds rich to me

I will try the battery as soon as this weather passes arkansas. I am sure this is a stupid little problem! I know its not serious, just have to pinpoint the issue.

I have checked the fuel/air mixture, and all looks good.

She doesnt really smoke alot when running. She sounds strong, and does not hesitate.

I also checked all the plug connections, and lubricated them just in case, but nothing.

someone mentioned to me they had a 225 efi doing the same thing, and all that needed was take her out and run her hard to blow it out. But im afaid to run an opti hard. I dont want her to blow up.

Any thoughts

do you maybe have any other suggestions?

I have tried just about all i can think of. Yesterday she ran great on land for the first time, and I was pushing in the 4k rpm range for over 10 min without her stalling. I shut her down let her cool off and tried again, and all was good. So i took her to the water and fired her up, well not even 5 mins of her running idle, she sure enough started stalling. This time it was as if she was trying to keep running. But after she stalled i couldnt get her running again, and had to troll back, again.

Can it be an ignition issue? some kinda Sensor?

any thoughts please
