2009 Yamaha 4 stroke 40 hp, F40LA
Was running great, then out on the water lost power until it quit, would start, but any attempt to give throttle or engage the gears and she would die. After getting it home it wont start at all. It will "start" if I squirt a little gas in a spark plug hole and then quickly put it back in and crank the key, but that only lasts a second or two. I have taken it apart down to the fuel injection pump, everything seems to be clear, clean and getting fuel. I don't know of how to test the injectors, but it seems unlikely that all three go bad at once. It is stumping me. It does have spark and good fuel in the system with the recommended amount of Marine Stabil. Should I hear something at all when I push the key in to "choke" the motor? I hear a click when I first turn the key, but nothing when I push it in.
