I have a 1.2 Evinrude (or is it a 2hp?) (Model EJRCUA and Serial No B 1361963)I hung it on the canoe and started it up and took off across the lake. Forgot to open the air vent, and of course it stopped. I discovered my stupidity and opened the vent, but it would not start now. Worse, while pulling on the rope, the motor seized - stoped turning over at all. Over heat? After a while it cooled and would turn over but no longer fire. I pulled the plug: spark fine, and plug appeared to be getting wet. Not sure though. Any ideas on what could be the problem? One guy told me the fuel pump may have gone out so it isn't getting to the cylinder. Any ideas appreciated.

Sounds like maybe it has a dirty carb. Maybe when you ran it with the valve closed the carb ran off what gas was left in it. Then when you opened the valve all the fuel rushed to the dirty carb overflowing and flooding the motor.

If that's the case you might be able to blow clean the needle and seat in the carb after you take it all apart (of course)

Of course this is just a guess.

^ yeA and the excessive fuel flooding the motor gives you the seized feeling--until it evaporates.

Thank you for the helpful information. I did not know about excessive fuel flooding the engine - seizing it. I will try cleaning out the carb and see if she runs. Thanks.
