I probably knew, but do to senility/old age I have forgotten. What are (909) numbers?? Are they the overseas ripoff numbers?? Or was that (900) or somthing else, as I do not recall.

lakeman, I thought 900 numbers were primarily sex hotlines. Don't know about 909's.

lakeman,i think the (909) were the one's in the virgin islands, they would leave a message, something to the effect "family member in jail or hospital" to try to get you to call, then the billing for the call was some 2 or 3 hundred dollars a minute. I guess all you would get if you called was the run around, on hold ect. They had a good scam as they were apparently out of the FCC's jurisdiction? Our co. sent that info to us as a warning, don't know how true it was or is?

909 is an area code in Southern California.<br /><br />It is somewhat of a joke around here.<br /><br />Most of the people in the coastal areas of Southern California equate a 909 area code with Meth labs, Mullets (the haircut) and white trash livng in general

Thanks friends, I think kilgore trout has helped me, the outfit is supposed to be in California, I think I mistook it for both the sex lines, and the virrgin is.

900 numbers are set up for the caller to be billed at special rates from the company that answers the phone.<br /><br />They can be anything from phone sex lines to support lines. In the IT industry, a lot companies have a 900 number you can call for support if you don't have a support contract or if your software is older and you need support.
