So I will be the 1st to admit I know nothing about outdrives.... this is what is marked on it. 1.98R 4798084 it is on a 79 thundercraft with a 140hp 2ltr gm engine. anything I should watch for? Anything I need to know? This is a fishing boat in for Canada that I was going to leave up there, but it trailered so nice I took it back home to do any other maint. that it might need along the way. I did have the lower impeller changed this spring and the grease as well. While fishing in june up there my dad snagged the prop with his line 3 or 4 times. caanot see if it is still wound up, guess I will have to take the prop off. thanks in advance, bob

Re: 1.98r outdrive

Removing the prop every year is a good thing to do.

1.98R is the overall gear ratio in the drive - it is correct for your 4 cyl.

Things to watch out for, water pump impeller, gimble bearing, bellows, u-joints and engine alignment. The manual for your drive is available for download in the adults only section and goes into detail on each of those items.

Re: 1.98r outdrive

thank you, have replaced the impeller, had the bellows checked and it was replaced recently, the gimbal bearing is well greased and in good shape according to the marina. the only thing I am not sure of is the u-joints. will remove prop to make sure the line is gone and not wrapped around the shaft. thanks again. bob
