Hi I’m new to the site.
I am also new to the outboard motor world.
I’m hoping someone might be able to help me with an issue on my 20 hp early 80s 2 cycle mariner. It’s only giving me one spark on the upper cylinder no spark on the lower cylinder. It ran fine for a season and a half then the issue started. Not knowing about switch boxes and trigger switches I just change the coil which didn’t help. And I changed out the switchbox to a new one didn’t help. And I put in a new trigger switch also didn’t help. Checking all grounds jumping around looking for a broken wires nothing obvious. I also did the obvious and switched coils and wires etc. I even put the old coil on the upper cylinder and the old coil actually still worked. I don’t know how to read a multimeter other than checking for 12 V or continuity. I was told that if the magnetos under the fly will were bad then I wouldn’t get any spark so I never bothered with them. But I think that’s about the last thing there is. There are two of them and they go to the trigger switch but that’s about as much is I know I am running out of ideas. Any help would be immensely appreciated. Thank you
