Referring to my earlier post on possible trailer upgrades. What would be the weight rating for a 1 inch straight spindle- axle? The hubs are rated for 1250lbs. Do you rate the spindles separately or the whole axle combined?

Thanks

Don't remember the smaller axles, but they are rated on the axle, like most of my trailer axles are 3750# and a tandem would easily carry a 5-6000# load with the proper tire and inflation. Don't know the spindle diameter off hand but google the subject and you will surely find your answer.

1" spindle axles can be 1,500 lbs, 2,000 lbs or more unusually 2,500 lbs rating.
99% of the ones I see are 2,000 lbs axles even though they have the 1,250 lbs hubs. That is just a standard size hub.
The loading is per hub so with two wheels you have 2 x 1,250 lbs capacity on the hubs.
The actual load rating is the weakest of the links - in this case almost certainly the axle which is probably 2,000 lbs.

Is the axle a round tube, square tube or a U shaped open on the bottom axle?

The axle is u-shaped. Which of the three you mentioned is the strongest?

Round is the strongest shape, square next and lastly the open bottom axle. For the weight your talking about it should be ok but I wouldn't go over 1250 pounds.
