1 no spark

I get no spark out of all three cylinders.. I changed the power pack and base timing, no luck. <br />3 times i had difficulty starting it but i figured if I wait a while.. it fixes itself.. now. it wouldnt start at all.. it had a weak spark bewfore i changed the power pack.. now it has no spark at all.. I'm positive i install it correctly. Help its a 70 hp eninrude

Take the power pack back. don't think they don't<br />make bad ones.<br />check there first.<br />Or put your old one back in and check it.<br />Rex A H

Have you went through the service manual checklist? It lists several things that can cause that type of problem. The last check is the most expensive part - the Pack. My 1969 Johnson had the same problem. Weak or intermittant spark, easy to flood due to weak spark. Then finally wouldn't start at all. Turned out to be the electrical wire for the air gap sensor(like points) It was not sending the signal to the pack to fire. Fixed that wire( $0.00) and the motor has spark like a new engine. Runs great, with no flooding problems. <br /><br />When I bought my boat and motor, the original owner said the pack was burnt out, I believed him. A $235.00 mistake but now I have 2 working packs. Of course, I got a steal on the boat beacuse he thought it needed a $350.00 pack. <br /><br />You need a service manual. Follow the tests. You will find the problem.<br /><br />I would probably check the air gap sensor or points first. They tell the pack to fire.

Probably was neither. Did you think to check the AC output on the stator? Voltage is probably low and causing the hard/no starting problem. Check the voltage between the two brown wire going to the CDI. Should be around 150 or better AC

I agree, it sure sounds like a bad stator.

What is the model number or year of your 70 hp motor. There are may be other things that can cause weak or no spark that are not on the motor, Like the key switch or emergengy ignition cut-off

No i havent checked any of those things nor do I have a manuel. maybe I should have bought that instead of the wife's fishing pole? .. I dont know how or where is the air gap. and it does have ignition emergancy cut off but i tested it once and it didnt kill the engine. I'll check it tomorrow. and with the model number I'll reply again again with a sucess story or more questions.. thanks everyone.
