I`m moving my trolling battery farther forward and I`m going to have to add about 10 ft or so of wire. The trolling motor is a minn kota 30lb. I have this roll of wire that says 10 awg MTW/THHN/ THWN on it. I`ve read on here to try to use 8 ga. but this 10 awg seems to be bigger and have thicker strands than whats on the motor now. Is this type of wire ok to use? and if so whats the best way to join the two together- solder them, butt connector? Thanks for any help.

10 gauge is 10 gauge. Although the strands are larger, the number of them is less so the net result is that if wire is specified as 10 gauge it is 10 gauge regardless of number and size of strands. For the length you want to run you need 8 gauge. The wire you have is building wire and not suitable for use in a boat.
