10 hp johnson starts and dies

io hp johnson model qd-22 serial 2183535 yr1961 the motor starts and runs great but only for a minute or so ,then will not restart until it has set for a few minutes. I tried to restart with spay in carb. nothing seemed to work. mag problems? it does have a kill switch will take any help. thanks

Sounds like maybe a bad coil. Sometimes when they heat up they short out, but work fine when cooler. I assume you've made sure it's getting fuel?
