I had a guy give me a like new Troy bilt chipper that needs a motor. it had a 10hp tecumseh on it and I need to find one in the 8-10hp range. Does anyone know a inexpensive place to get a new or used one on the net i have tried ebay engine4less.com and a local shop(he said to use a 5hp but if it was supposed to have a 5 hp it would have come with it and not a 10

Try Grainger, they have a nice selection of gas motors, and web site to order from.

Northern Hydraulic has engines that are pretty reasonable.

jimr
There is a place in Sand Springs, OK (on highway 97 just north of 41st street) called Chepo depo, they had some small gas engines last time I was In there, haven't been in a while and did not look them over just noticed them there. might be worth a call!

Re: 10 HP Tecumseh engine

I looked all over town and got prices around 500 bucks with nothing used to be found. so we just ordered a 10 hp tecumseh from www.engine4less.com for $305 with shipping. alot of people say that tecumsehs are junk but they come with the same warranty that briggs or the others have. I know my dad used to have them on snowblowers and never had problems and he is in central NY and they get alot of use up there

My JD snow blower has a tecumseh 8 hp that is over 20 years old and used alot and still runs fine. snow blowers last longer though because there is zero dust in the winter, in fact snow blower engines don't even have air filters on them.

Re: 10 HP Tecumseh engine

jimr,
My experience with Tecumseh is limited to a 6 hp engine that came with a Troy-Built tiller. It worked fine for over 15 years. The only problem was the lack of a fuel cutoff between the tank and the engine. Fuel would leak into the crankcase when the engine was not in use and dilute the oil. After installing a fuel cutoff, the engine ran for 15 years with no problems.

Re: 10 HP Tecumseh engine

My family had a tecumseh 5hp snow blower that lasted 12 MN winters with little maintaince or preventive care. A year before it blew up it was ran with out oil- did the whole driveway. Likely it would still be running. Just like you got a new motor for a about $200. The motors are loud and vibrate alot, but on a tiller who cares. MO

Re: 10 HP Tecumseh engine

Had an old snowblower with a 8hp Tecumseh engine in it. Must be from the mid-late 60's -- stayed in the family since (3 Generations). Has been running great since then. Starts good and runs very strong. I just recently gave it to a friend of mine this past winter after getting a new snowblower with a 10hp Tecumseh engine. Hopefully this one holds up just as long as the older one!

Re: 10 HP Tecumseh engine

Hope it works well for you! The only Tecumseh I had was a 2.5 or 3 hp on a k-mart mower. use it twice and it twisted the crank shaft sheared the flywheel key, and they refused warenty, said it was abuse. I bought an old b & s 15 years ago and still use it! Like I said hope it works well for you!
