10 hp year and question.

I have this 10 hp Johnson that I bought 2 years ago that I havent used much I think because the hi n low speep adjustments just dont seem to stay in place, seems if i tighten them I cant adjust them, yet if I keep em loose they tend to move. Do I need to replace everything? Thats the question. The numbers I got from the motor: Model: 0D19.... Serial #: S1748878. I really have no idea but I would guess its a '58. So am I close?

hi dean if you go to epc.brp.com (google it cos it doesn't seem to work for me if you copy and paste it into address bar)
It has year, hp and model numbers that lead to exploded parts views etc. that you may find helpfull. Not that i have answered your real question about idle speed.

A QD-19 is a 1958 10hp. 24:1 mix. It sounds like you'll want to replace the packing nuts and then tighten up the adjusters properly.

Thank you Sam, eventhough this is an older motor I sure like the way it pushes my 12 foot aluminum boat. It's just that I cant get the hi n low adj. to stay in place. Are the parts I need readily availble still? Your probably right on the #'s I didnt have my reading galsses on. Thanks again, Dean

Very easy to fix and very easy to get the parts at the dealer. About a buck each for the packing nuts and you need 4... They're just cork type washers that tighten around the needle via the big nut to hold it in place and make it's all sealed up nicely. Just make sure you get all the old pieces out.
