Ok I have a large supply of 10 oz eglass and am going to use it to glass in the stringers and trasom on my 1977 Wilson hydro sport combo. I'm going to spin every layer 90 degrees from the previous layer. I no most like the 1708 biaxial but I have the 10 oz already and 4" strips allready cut to start tabbing in and around 100 yards give or take 50" wide and I'm useing polyester resin. My ? Is how many layers should I do on stringers and transom?

You do realize you'll need to use CSM between each successive layer of the 10oz e glass to get good adhesion??? 2 Layers should be plenty. Your layup schedule should be... 1 layer of 1.5oz csm, 1 layer of 10oz eglass, another layer of CSM final layer of 10oz eglass. this will use more than double the amount of resin as well.

The reason 10oz cloth isn't used more often with polyester is because of what WOG just said, you need to use mat between each layer, this makes the laminate heavier and thicker for the same strength when compared to 1708 or 24 oz roving. Two layers of 10 oz don't equal 1 layer of 24 oz, but you need to use more mat, which about doubles the amount of resin used. 10 oz can be used, just isn't the ideal product for this application.

Why the use of csm for adhesion what makes the csm adhere more than cloth. It seems to adhere fine in my line of work (rebuilding of tractor trailer hoods and we use polyester resin) and takes a hell of a beating.

I'm sure it does and it has Chopped stand mat as well. Standard Practice for creating a fiberglass laminate of multiple layers is to use CSM between the layers of fabric. If you don't there's a high likelihood of delamination when the laminate is placed under flex and stress.

So should I start with a 4" strip of csm on both sides of stringers and trasom then the cloth then a wider piece of csm then cloth or should I go with a wide enough piece of csm to go all the way up and over and about 6" on both sides of stringers and transom then the cloth with two layers of both. The center stringer is about 9" tall at the tallest and side stringers are about 3" tall and al are about 15' long.

Thanks that actually cleared up why to use csm I can understand it dissolving some and becoming part of the resin because of styrene. But what wheight of csm should I use?

An iPad isn't the worst thing you can come home to... But it sure makes a great excuse to grab some toys!
